The Works of Christ — Divine Functions Attributed Only to God

THE DEITY OF CHRIST — LECTURE 8

Introduction: Not Just Words—But Works

In the previous lecture, we examined the claims of Christ—what He said about Himself.

Now we move to something equally decisive:

What did Jesus do?

Because in Scripture:

  • Words can be tested by works
  • Identity is revealed through action

And the Bible establishes a clear principle:

There are works that belong to God alone

So the question is:

Did Jesus perform works that only God can perform?

If the answer is yes, then the conclusion is unavoidable.

I. Creation — The Work of God Alone

The Bible is clear:

“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1)

Creation is not delegated to any creature.

It is the exclusive work of God.

A. John 1:3

“All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.”

Key points:

  • “All things” — nothing excluded
  • “Without him was not any thing made” — absolute statement

Therefore:

The Word is not created—He is the Creator

B. Colossians 1:16

“For by him were all things created… all things were created by him, and for him.”

Not only creation:

  • Created by Him
  • Created for Him

This is divine authority and ownership

II. Forgiveness of Sins — Authority Belonging Only to God

Mark 2:5 — “…Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.”

The response of the scribes:

“Who can forgive sins but God only?” (Mark 2:7)

This is a correct theological truth.

Only God can forgive sins

Yet Jesus does it—directly.

Not by prayer

Not by appeal

But by authority

Conclusion

Jesus exercises the authority that belongs only to God

III. Authority Over Life and Death

John 5:21

“For as the Father raiseth up the dead… even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.”

Key phrase:

“whom he will”

This is not delegated action.

It is sovereign authority

A. Raising the Dead

  • Lazarus (John 11)
  • Others raised by His word

Life itself responds to Him

Conclusion

The power over life belongs to God alone

Jesus exercises that power

IV. Authority to Judge All Mankind

John 5:22–23

“For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:”

And why?

“That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father.”

Key Truth

  • Judgment belongs to God
  • Honor equal to God belongs only to God

Yet both are given to the Son

Conclusion

The Son must be equal in nature to the Father

V. Receiving Worship — Reserved for God Alone

We have seen:

  • Jesus receives worship (Matthew 14:33)
  • Jesus does not refuse it

Compare:

Revelation 22:8–9 — angels refuse worship

Conclusion

Worship belongs to God alone

Jesus receives worship

Therefore:

Jesus is God

VI. CENI — Establishing the Doctrine

Command (Direct Statements)

  • Creation attributed to Christ (John 1:3)
  • Authority and judgment (John 5:22–23)

Example

  • Forgives sins
  • Raises the dead
  • Receives worship

Necessary Inference

Only God:

  • Creates
  • Forgives sins
  • Gives life
  • Judges all
  • Receives worship

Christ does all these

Therefore:

Christ is God

VII. Apologetic — Answering Objections

❌ “These works were given to Him by God”

Even if stated as given:

The nature of the works remains divine

  • Creation cannot be delegated to a creature
  • Worship cannot be given to a creature
  • Final judgment cannot belong to a creature

❌ “ He acts only as a representative”

This fails because:

  • He acts by His own authority (“I will”)
  • He receives direct honor
  • He performs divine works personally

❌ “ These are symbolic accounts”

This fails because:

  • These are historical events
  • Witnessed and recorded
  • Interpreted literally by those present

VIII. Polemic — Refuting False Doctrines

❌ “ Jesus is a created being”

Impossible because:

  • A created being cannot create all things

❌ “ Jesus is lesser than God”

Impossible because:

  • He receives equal honor
  • Exercises divine authority

❌ “ Jesus is only empowered by God”

Insufficient because:

  • He acts with inherent authority
  • Not merely delegated action

IX. The Unity of His Works and Identity

Jesus does not perform isolated miracles.

His works consistently reveal:

  • Authority
  • Power
  • Identity

These are not random acts.

They are evidence of who He is

X. Spiritual Application — Recognizing the True Christ

The question is not:

“Did Jesus perform miracles?”

The question is:

What do His works reveal about Him?

Because:

  • If He creates → He is God
  • If He forgives → He is God
  • If He gives life → He is God
  • If He judges → He is God

Conclusion: The Works That Reveal His Nature

The works of Christ are not merely powerful—they are divine.

  • He creates
  • He forgives
  • He gives life
  • He judges
  • He receives worship

These are not the works of a man

These are the works of God

Therefore:

Jesus Christ performs the works that belong to God alone—and by Scripture, this confirms that He is God.

Ang Mga Gawa ni Cristo — Mga Gawa na Tanging sa Dios Lamang Iniuukol

ANG PAGKA-DIYOS NI CRISTO — ARALIN 8

A. Juan 1:3

(Marcos 2:7)

Tama ang sinabi nila:

Dios lamang ang nagpapatawad ng kasalanan

Pero ginawa ito ni Jesus.

Hindi Siya nanalangin

Hindi Siya humingi ng pahintulot

Siya mismo ang nagpatawad

III.

(Juan 5:21)

Pansinin:

“sa kaniyang ibig”

Sariling kapangyarihan

Hindi hiniram

Halimbawa

  • Binuhay si Lazaro (Juan 11)
  • Sa Kaniyang salita, may buhay

Buhay mismo ay sumusunod sa Kaniya

IV.

(Juan 5:22)

At bakit?

“Upang papurihan ng lahat ang Anak, na gaya ng pagpaparangal nila sa Ama…” (Juan 5:23)

Ang paghatol ay sa Dios

Ang kaparehong parangal ay sa Dios lamang

Pero ibinigay sa Anak.

Kaya malinaw:

Hindi Siya hiwalay sa kalikasan ng Dios

V. Pagtanggap ng Pagsamba — Para Lamang sa Dios

Makikita natin:

Mateo 14:33 — “…siya’y sinamba nila…”

Samantalang:

Apocalipsis 22:8–9 — tumatanggi ang anghel

Si Jesus:

  • Hindi tumanggi
  • Tinanggap ang pagsamba

Kaya malinaw:

Tinanggap Niya ang para sa Dios lamang

VI. CENI — Pagtatatag ng Katotohanan

Utos (Direct Statements)

  • Juan 1:3 — Siya ang lumilikha
  • Juan 5:22–23 — Siya ang humahatol

Halimbawa

  • Nagpatawad ng kasalanan
  • Bumuhay ng patay
  • Tumanggap ng pagsamba

Kinakailangang Konklusyon

Ang Dios lamang:

  • Lumilikha
  • Nagpapatawad
  • Nagbibigay buhay
  • Humahatol
  • Tumatanggap ng pagsamba

Ginawa ito ni Cristo

Kaya:

Si Cristo ay Dios

VII. Apologetics — Pagsagot sa Pagtutol

❌ “ Ibinigay lang ito sa Kaniya”

Kahit ibinigay:

Ang uri ng gawa ay nananatiling banal

  • Hindi nilikha ang lumilikha
  • Hindi nilalang ang sinasamba

❌ “ Kinatawan lang Siya”

Hindi sapat dahil:

  • Siya mismo ang gumagawa
  • May sariling kapangyarihan
  • Tumatanggap ng direktang parangal

❌ “ Simbolo lang ito”

Hindi tama dahil:

  • Totoong pangyayari
  • Nakita at naranasan
  • Hindi alegorya

VIII. Polemics — Pagtanggi sa Maling Aral

❌ “ Nilikhang nilalang si Jesus”

Imposible dahil:

  • Ang lumilikha ay hindi nilikha

❌ “ Mas mababa si Jesus sa Dios”

Hindi tama dahil:

  • Parehong parangal
  • Parehong kapangyarihan

❌ “ Pinahiram lang ng kapangyarihan”

Hindi sapat dahil:

  • Sariling awtoridad
  • Direktang pagkilos

IX.

The Origin and Error of “Once Saved, Always Saved” (OSAS): A Biblical Exposé

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog The Origin and Error of “Once Saved, Always Saved” (OSAS) A Biblical Exposé An Authoritative Study Using the King James Bible Introduction: A Question of Eternal Security The doctrine of Once Saved, Always Saved (OSAS) asserts that once a person is saved, they can never lose their salvation, regardless of future behavior, apostasy, or rebellion. It is often linked with the phrase “eternal security” in Protestant theology. This study examines the origin, evaluates the biblical claims, and provides a full refutation using only the Scripture as the final and only authority. I. Historical Roots of OSAS (A Brief Context) Though many today assume OSAS to be an apostolic doctrine, its systematized form arose from John Calvin's doctrine of Perseverance of the Saints (TULIP), later popularized by Baptist theologians like Charles Stanley and modern evangelical churches. However, early church fathers such as Tertullian, Orige...

The Promise and Importance of Christ’s Church

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog     Next ⟶ The Promise and Importance of Christ’s Church "And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." — Matthew 16:18 (KJV) Introduction The Church of Christ is not a product of human invention or denominational evolution. It is the fulfillment of a divine promise — a structure built not by human hands, but by the Lord Himself. In a time when religious confusion is widespread and thousands of conflicting churches exist, we must return to the simple, authoritative statement of Jesus: “I will build my church.” (Matt. 16:18) These words mark the beginning of a divine blueprint. This was not a vague intention, nor a mystical concept. Jesus was referring to a real, identifiable, and traceable body of people — the church — that He Himself would build, own, and preserve. “I Will Build My Church” — A Divine Dec...

Grace, Faith, and Works

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog Grace, Faith, And Works A Biblical Exegesis Of Ephesians 2:8–10 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” – Ephesians 2:8–10 I. Introduction: Why This Study Matters Now More Than Ever In a religious world increasingly divided by theological confusion and denominational doctrines, few passages are more quoted yet more misunderstood than Ephesians 2:8–10 : “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” While this passage declares foundational truths about salvation, it has been misappropria...

Restoration Movement: The Illusion of Rebuilding What God Preserved

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog There Is Nothing to Restore — Just Preach the Gospel A Doctrinal Exposition Affirming the Ongoing Existence and Perfection of God’s Church Introduction In recent centuries, many sincere believers have spoken of a "restoration movement"—the idea that the true church was lost to history and must now be recovered or re-established. But is this concept biblical? Does Scripture ever indicate that the church built by Christ (Matthew 16:18) would vanish, become corrupted, and need a future restoration? The answer, as revealed in the inspired Word of God, is  no . What God  planned before the foundation of the world  (Ephesians 3:9–11), what Christ  purchased with His own blood  (Acts 20:28), and what was  established in power on Pentecost  (Acts 2),  continues to exist today . While men may depart from the truth, the truth remains. And what we are called to do is not to restore, but to  pre...

The Church Built By Jesus Christ In The New testament - Lesson 1

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog ⟵ Previous Next ⟶ Lesson 1: The Church Planned by God Before the Creation of the Universe Key Passage: Ephesians 3:9–11 “ And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord: ” Introduction The concept of the church is often misunderstood—even among believers. To many, it appears to be an afterthought, a temporary institution until Christ returns, or merely a human denomination among many. But the Scriptures teach otherwise. The church was not an accident. It was not a substitute for a failed plan. It was not an invention of man. It was part of God's eternal purpose , rooted i...

“Jesus Called Us Brethren”

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog "Go and Tell My brethren" Text: “Then Jesus said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. Go and tell My brethren to go to Galilee, and there they will see Me.’” - Matthew 28:10 I. Introduction: The Significance of the Word "Brethren" After His glorious resurrection, Jesus could have referred to His disciples with any term—“servants,” “students,” or “followers.” But He chose the word “brethren.” This word carries weight. It reflects forgiveness, restored fellowship, and most importantly, a shared relationship with the Father. Why does Jesus now call His disciples brethren? What does that mean for us today? And how did we become worthy of such a name? II. Context and Background Let’s recall that before the crucifixion, His disciples deserted Him in fear (Matthew 26:56). Peter even denied Him three times. They failed Him at His darkest hour. Yet, after rising from the grave, Jesus doesn’t rebuke them—He calls them “My b...

The Deathblow to OSAS

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog Romans 6:1-2 — The Deathblow to OSAS with One Simple Question "What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? - Romans 6:1-2 Can You Keep Sinning and Still Be Saved? Paul Says: Absolutely Not! Some claim, “Once Saved, Always Saved” (OSAS)—but what if one simple question from Paul demolishes that doctrine entirely? In  Romans 6:1-2 , the apostle confronts the dangerous logic that grace gives license to sin. His answer is sharp, unshakable, and Spirit-inspired. This short but powerful passage doesn’t just challenge OSAS—it delivers the deathblow. Ready to face the truth? Q: Who is speaking in Romans 6:1? A:  The apostle  Paul —a faithful Christian, divinely inspired. Q: Who does the word "we" refer to? A:  To  Paul and other Christians . Those already  saved ,  baptized , and  wal...
