Worship of Christ — Acceptable Only If He Is God

THE DEITY OF CHRIST — LECTURE 9

Introduction: The Line That Cannot Be Crossed

In Scripture, worship is never treated lightly.

It is:

  • Not a gesture
  • Not mere respect
  • Not cultural expression

Worship belongs to God alone

This is one of the clearest and most guarded truths in the Bible.

“Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.” (Matthew 4:10)

Therefore, a decisive question arises:

Did Jesus receive worship?

And if He did:

Was it right—or was it idolatry?

The answer to this question leads to an unavoidable conclusion about who Christ truly is.

I. The Exclusive Nature of Worship

From the Old Testament to the New, the command is consistent:

“I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another…” (Isaiah 42:8)

God does not share worship

God does not permit rivals

This establishes a non-negotiable truth:

If Christ is not God, then worshipping Him is sin

There is no middle ground.

II. Jesus Receives Worship — Without Refusal

A. Matthew 14:33

After Jesus calmed the storm:

“Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.”

They worshipped Him

He did not stop them

B. John 9:38

The man born blind, after being healed:

“And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.”

Direct worship

No correction

C. Post-Resurrection Worship

“…they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.” (Matthew 28:9)

Even after resurrection:

Worship continues

Still no refusal

III. Contrast — Angels Refuse Worship

This is critical for interpretation.

“See thou do it not… worship God.” (Revelation 22:8–9)

When John attempted to worship an angel:

  • The angel stopped him immediately
  • Redirected worship to God

This is the consistent pattern:

  • Created beings reject worship
  • Only God receives worship

IV. Hebrews 1:6 — Command to Worship the Son

“And let all the angels of God worship him.”

This is not human action—this is divine command.

God commands angels to worship the Son

Implication

  • Angels worship God
  • Angels are commanded to worship the Son

Therefore:

The Son is not a creature—He is God

V. CENI — Establishing the Doctrine

Command (Direct Statement)

  • Hebrews 1:6 — angels commanded to worship Christ

Example

  • Disciples worship Him (Matthew 14:33)
  • Individuals worship Him (John 9:38)
  • Post-resurrection worship (Matthew 28:9)

Necessary Inference

Only God:

  • Is to be worshipped
  • Receives worship without correction

Christ:

  • Receives worship
  • Is commanded to be worshipped

Therefore:

Christ is God

VI. Apologetic — Answering Objections

❌ “ This is only respect, not worship”

This fails because:

  • The Greek word used is proskuneō

meaning:

  • to bow down
  • to worship

This same word is used for worship of God.

❌ “ Jesus allowed it temporarily”

This fails because:

  • Worship occurs multiple times
  • No correction is ever given
  • Even after resurrection, worship continues

❌ “ It was misunderstanding”

This fails because:

  • Jesus never corrected them
  • God commands worship of the Son (Hebrews 1:6)

VII. Polemic — Refuting False Doctrine

❌ “ Jesus is not God, but worthy of honor”

This is impossible because:

Worship is not honor

Worship is reserved for God alone

❌ “Jesus is a created being who is worshipped”

This is blasphemous under Scripture because:

  • Created beings reject worship
  • God forbids giving worship to another

❌ “Jesus is exalted but not divine”

This fails because:

  • Worship is given
  • Worship is commanded
  • Worship is accepted

These cannot apply to a non-divine being

VIII. The Unity of Worship and Identity

The Bible does not separate:

  • Who God is
  • What God receives

Worship reveals identity

Therefore:

  • If Christ receives worship

He shares the identity of God

IX. Spiritual Application — The Object of True Worship

This truth demands response.

  • Worship is not optional
  • Worship must be directed correctly

To worship Christ is:

  • Not error
  • Not idolatry

It is obedience to God

X. The Weight of the Question

There is no neutral position:

If Christ is not God → worshipping Him is sin

If Christ is God → refusing to worship Him is sin

Conclusion: Worship That Reveals His Nature

The evidence is clear:

  • Jesus receives worship
  • Jesus never refuses worship
  • God commands worship of the Son
  • Created beings reject worship

Therefore:

Jesus Christ is worthy of worship because He is God—and Scripture affirms this without contradiction.

Final Conclusion:

The worship of Christ is not only acceptable—it is required. And it is only acceptable if He is truly God.

Ang Pagsamba kay Cristo — Katanggap-tanggap Lamang Kung Siya ay Dios

ANG PAGKA-DIYOS NI CRISTO — ARALIN 9

Panimula: Ang Hangganan na Hindi Pwedeng Lagtawan Ninoman

Sa Biblia, ang pagsamba ay hindi basta-basta.

Hindi ito:

  • simpleng paggalang
  • tradisyon
  • o emosyon

Ang pagsamba ay para lamang sa Dios

Malinaw ang utos:

“Sa Panginoon mong Dios sasamba ka, at siya lamang ang iyong paglilingkuran.” (Mateo 4:10)

Kaya may tanong na hindi pwedeng iwasan:

Tinanggap ba ni Jesus ang pagsamba?

At kung tinanggap Niya:

Tama ba iyon—o mali?

Walang gitna.

II. Tinanggap ni Jesus ang Pagsamba

A. Mateo 14:33

“…siya’y sinamba nila…”

Sinamba Siya

Hindi Niya pinigilan

B. Juan 9:38

“…Panginoon, sumasampalataya ako. At siya’y sinamba niya.”

Direktang pagsamba

Walang pagtanggi

Utos (Direct Statement)

  • Hebreo 1:6 — sambahin ang Anak

Halimbawa

  • Sinamba Siya ng mga alagad (Mateo 14:33)
  • Sinamba Siya ng mga tao (Juan 9:38)
  • Sinamba Siya pagkatapos mabuhay (Mateo 28:9)

Kinakailangang Konklusyon

Ang Dios lamang:

  • sinasamba
  • tumatanggap ng pagsamba

Si Cristo:

  • tinanggap ang pagsamba
  • inutusan na sambahin

Kaya:

Si Cristo ay Dios

VI. Apologetics — Pagsagot sa mga Pagtutol

❌ “ Paggalang lang iyon, hindi pagsamba”

Hindi ito tama dahil:

  • Ang salitang ginamit ay proskuneō

ibig sabihin: sumamba

❌ “ Pinayagan lang Niya pansamantala”

Hindi ito tama dahil:

  • Paulit-ulit itong nangyari
  • Walang correction
  • Kahit pagkatapos ng resurrection, may pagsamba

❌ “ Hindi nila naintindihan”

Hindi ito tama dahil:

  • Hindi Niya itinama
  • Inutusan pa ng Dios na sambahin Siya

VII.

The Origin and Error of “Once Saved, Always Saved” (OSAS): A Biblical Exposé

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog The Origin and Error of “Once Saved, Always Saved” (OSAS) A Biblical Exposé An Authoritative Study Using the King James Bible Introduction: A Question of Eternal Security The doctrine of Once Saved, Always Saved (OSAS) asserts that once a person is saved, they can never lose their salvation, regardless of future behavior, apostasy, or rebellion. It is often linked with the phrase “eternal security” in Protestant theology. This study examines the origin, evaluates the biblical claims, and provides a full refutation using only the Scripture as the final and only authority. I. Historical Roots of OSAS (A Brief Context) Though many today assume OSAS to be an apostolic doctrine, its systematized form arose from John Calvin's doctrine of Perseverance of the Saints (TULIP), later popularized by Baptist theologians like Charles Stanley and modern evangelical churches. However, early church fathers such as Tertullian, Orige...

The Promise and Importance of Christ’s Church

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog     Next ⟶ The Promise and Importance of Christ’s Church "And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." — Matthew 16:18 (KJV) Introduction The Church of Christ is not a product of human invention or denominational evolution. It is the fulfillment of a divine promise — a structure built not by human hands, but by the Lord Himself. In a time when religious confusion is widespread and thousands of conflicting churches exist, we must return to the simple, authoritative statement of Jesus: “I will build my church.” (Matt. 16:18) These words mark the beginning of a divine blueprint. This was not a vague intention, nor a mystical concept. Jesus was referring to a real, identifiable, and traceable body of people — the church — that He Himself would build, own, and preserve. “I Will Build My Church” — A Divine Dec...

Grace, Faith, and Works

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog Grace, Faith, And Works A Biblical Exegesis Of Ephesians 2:8–10 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” – Ephesians 2:8–10 I. Introduction: Why This Study Matters Now More Than Ever In a religious world increasingly divided by theological confusion and denominational doctrines, few passages are more quoted yet more misunderstood than Ephesians 2:8–10 : “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” While this passage declares foundational truths about salvation, it has been misappropria...

Restoration Movement: The Illusion of Rebuilding What God Preserved

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog There Is Nothing to Restore — Just Preach the Gospel A Doctrinal Exposition Affirming the Ongoing Existence and Perfection of God’s Church Introduction In recent centuries, many sincere believers have spoken of a "restoration movement"—the idea that the true church was lost to history and must now be recovered or re-established. But is this concept biblical? Does Scripture ever indicate that the church built by Christ (Matthew 16:18) would vanish, become corrupted, and need a future restoration? The answer, as revealed in the inspired Word of God, is  no . What God  planned before the foundation of the world  (Ephesians 3:9–11), what Christ  purchased with His own blood  (Acts 20:28), and what was  established in power on Pentecost  (Acts 2),  continues to exist today . While men may depart from the truth, the truth remains. And what we are called to do is not to restore, but to  pre...

WHAT MUST I DO TO BE SAVED?

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog What Must I Do To Be Saved? A Doctrinal Study in Biblical Salvation THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION YOU MUST ASK — AND GOD HAS ALREADY ANSWERED IT There is no question more urgent, more eternal, and more personal than this: “What must I do to be saved?” This question is not a modern invention — it is already found in the New Testament , asked by real people in real moments of conviction, and answered by the Holy Spirit through the apostles of Jesus Christ. This means every truth-seeker today must stop looking elsewhere for answers. God has already spoken. His answer is final. His plan is clear. If the whole world knew God’s answer to this question, no one would be lost. So if what you’ve heard about salvation differs from what the Bible teaches — leave that group, that preacher, or that tradition immediately. “ If anyone preaches another gospel… let him be accursed. ” (Galatians 1:8–9) Are you ready to hear the real answer from...

The Church Built By Jesus Christ In The New testament - Lesson 1

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog ⟵ Previous Next ⟶ Lesson 1: The Church Planned by God Before the Creation of the Universe Key Passage: Ephesians 3:9–11 “ And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord: ” Introduction The concept of the church is often misunderstood—even among believers. To many, it appears to be an afterthought, a temporary institution until Christ returns, or merely a human denomination among many. But the Scriptures teach otherwise. The church was not an accident. It was not a substitute for a failed plan. It was not an invention of man. It was part of God's eternal purpose , rooted i...

“Jesus Called Us Brethren”

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog "Go and Tell My brethren" Text: “Then Jesus said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. Go and tell My brethren to go to Galilee, and there they will see Me.’” - Matthew 28:10 I. Introduction: The Significance of the Word "Brethren" After His glorious resurrection, Jesus could have referred to His disciples with any term—“servants,” “students,” or “followers.” But He chose the word “brethren.” This word carries weight. It reflects forgiveness, restored fellowship, and most importantly, a shared relationship with the Father. Why does Jesus now call His disciples brethren? What does that mean for us today? And how did we become worthy of such a name? II. Context and Background Let’s recall that before the crucifixion, His disciples deserted Him in fear (Matthew 26:56). Peter even denied Him three times. They failed Him at His darkest hour. Yet, after rising from the grave, Jesus doesn’t rebuke them—He calls them “My b...
