There Is Nothing to Restore — Just Preach the Gospel

A Doctrinal Exposition Affirming the Ongoing Existence and Perfection of God’s Church

Introduction

In recent centuries, many sincere believers have spoken of a "restoration movement"—the idea that the true church was lost to history and must now be recovered or re-established. But is this concept biblical? Does Scripture ever indicate that the church built by Christ (Matthew 16:18) would vanish, become corrupted, and need a future restoration?

The answer, as revealed in the inspired Word of God, is no. What God planned before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 3:9–11), what Christ purchased with His own blood (Acts 20:28), and what was established in power on Pentecost (Acts 2), continues to exist today. While men may depart from the truth, the truth remains. And what we are called to do is not to restore, but to preach.

I. God’s Eternal Plan Did Not Fail

“And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God… to the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,

According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

(Ephesians 3:9–11)

The church was not a contingency or a stop-gap. It was the eternal purpose of God. The Greek phrase “κατὰ πρόθεσιν τῶν αἰώνων” (kata prothesin tōn aiōnōn) in verse 11 emphasizes a purpose rooted in eternity past, not bound by time or history. If God purposed it, can it be lost? Was it ever at risk of total extinction?

To suggest that the church vanished from the earth is to imply either:

  1. God failed in His purpose, or
  2. Christ’s promise failed.

Both are impossible.

II. Christ Built a Church That Will Never Fall

“...upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”
(Matthew 16:18)

The phrase “shall not prevail” translates οὐ κατισχύσουσιν αὐτῆς (ou katischysousin autēs), meaning will not overpower it, defeat it, or suppress it. Christ didn’t say the church wouldn’t be challenged — He said it would never be overcome.

The church may be departed from by men, as Paul warned in Acts 20:29–30 and 2 Timothy 4:3–4. But this departure never erased the church; it only revealed who stayed faithful and who did not. The church exists where the seed is planted and obeyed — not where history or tradition declares it so.

III. The Gospel Is the Seed — And It Still Produces

“The seed is the word of God.”
(Luke 8:11)

In the Parable of the Sower (Matthew 13:1–23), Jesus did not teach that the seed would change, nor that it would be lost. The seed — the Word — remains the same. When it is sown into honest hearts, it produces the same result as it did in the first century: obedient believers added by the Lord to His church (Acts 2:47).

Therefore, we do not need to restore anything. We simply need to sow what has always existed. The pattern is not broken, and the power has not diminished.

IV. “Such As Should Be Saved” — Then and Now

“And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.” (Acts 2:47)

The grammar of Acts 2:47 shows a continuing action — “added daily”. The Lord still adds the obedient today, just as He did then. He does not need a restored denomination, a council, or a movement. The saved are added to the church — Christ’s body — by the Lord Himself.

Compare also:

  • 1 Corinthians 12:13 — “For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body…”
  • Colossians 1:18 — “And he is the head of the body, the church…”

If the body still exists, the church still exists, and the Gospel still works.

V. Departures Are Real — But They Don’t Erase the Truth

“Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith…”
(1 Timothy 4:1)

Men depart, but the faith remains. The truth does not vanish just because it is abandoned. The Word of God is not subject to men’s failures:

“The word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.”
(1 Peter 1:25)

Just as Paul told Timothy to preach the word “in season and out of season” (2 Timothy 4:2), so must we. Not to reconstruct what was lost, but to preach what still is.

Conclusion: Nothing to Restore — Just Preach

The “restorationist principle,” as commonly framed, assumes that something was lost and must be found. But the Word of God tells us something better: nothing was lost that God intended to remain. The church still stands. The Word still saves. The Lord still adds.

“Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed?
And how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard?
And how shall they hear without a preacher?”
(Romans 10:13–14)

So preach. Don’t rebuild the house — just proclaim the cornerstone.

  • The Gospel seed produces the same fruit today as in the first century.
  • The mission is not to restore, but to preach what is already true.
  • The Word of God endures forever — and so does the body of Christ.

Walang Dapat I-Restore — Ipangaral Lamang ang Ebanghelyo

Isang Doktrinal na Pagsusuri na Nagpapatunay sa Patuloy na Pag-iral at Kaganapan ng Iglesiang Itinatag ng Diyos

Panimula

Sa mga nagdaang siglo, marami ang nagsikap na “i-Restore” ang tunay na iglesia — ang paniniwala diumano ay nawala ito sa paglipas ng kasaysayan at kailangang muling itayo. Ngunit ito ba’y sinasang-ayunan ng Kasulatan? May sinasabi ba ang Bibliya na ang iglesia na itinayo ni Cristo (Mateo 16:18) ay nawala, naging tiwali, at kailangan ng pagtatayong-muli sa hinaharap?

Ang sagot, ayon sa kinasihang Salita ng Diyos, ay hindi. Ang plano ng Diyos bago pa ang paglalang ng sanlibutan (Efeso 3:9–11), ang iglesiang tinubos ng dugo ni Cristo (Gawa 20:28), at itinatag na may kapangyarihan (Gr. dunamis) sa Araw ng Pentecostes (Marcos 9:1; Gawa 2), ay patuloy na umiiral hanggang ngayon. Maaaring talikuran ito ng tao, ngunit ang katotohanan ay nananatili pa rin ito at patuloy na mananatili. Kaya ang ating tungkulin ay hindi ang pagtatayong-muli o magrestore, kundi ang ipangaral ang ebanghelyo.

I. Ang Walang Hanggang Plano ng Diyos Ay Hindi Nabigo

"At maipakita sa lahat ng mga tao kung ano ang pagiging katiwala sa hiwaga na sa lahat ng panahon ay inilihim ng Dios na lumalang ng lahat ng mga bagay; Upang ngayo'y sa pamamagitan ng iglesia, ay maipakikilala sa mga pamunuan at sa mga kapangyarihan sa sangkalangitan ang kapuspusan ng karunungan ng Dios, Ayon sa panukalang walang hanggan na ipinanukala kay Cristo Jesus na Panginoon natin:" (Efeso 3:9–11)

Ang iglesia ay hindi isang pansamantalang solusyon. Ito'y bahagi ng walang hanggang panukala ng Diyos. Ang salitang “panukalang walang hanggan” ay nagpapahiwatig ng isang layuning walang hanggan, hindi nasasakop ng panahon. Samakatuwid, kung nilayon ng Diyos ito, maaari ba itong mawala? Nabigo ba ang layunin Niyang ito?

Upang ipalagay ninoman na ang iglesia ay naglaho sa mundo, ito'y nagpapahiwatig ng:

  1. Nabigo ang Diyos sa Kaniyang layunin, o
  2. Nabigo si Cristo sa Kaniyang pangako.

Ang dalawang ito ay hindi kailanman mangyayari.

II. Ang Iglesia na Itinatag ni Cristo Ay Hindi Magigiba

"At sinasabi ko naman sa iyo, na ikaw ay Pedro, at sa ibabaw ng batong ito ay itatayo ko ang aking iglesia; at ang mga pintuan ng Hades ay hindi magsisipanaig laban sa kaniya."
(Mateo 16:18)

Hindi sinabi ni Cristo na ang iglesia ay hindi lulusubin — ang Kaniyang sinabi ay hindi magsisipanaig laban sa iglesia ang hades. Maaaring iwanan ito ng mga tao (Gawa 20:29–30; 2 Timoteo 4:3–4), ngunit hindi nito ibig sabihin na ang iglesia ay maglalaho o magagapi. Nananatili ito hangga’t nananatili rin naman ang binhi — ang Salita ng Diyos. Ang hinihintay lamang nito ay tayo upang ito’y ihasik sa puso ng lahat ng tao.

III. Ang Ebanghelyo ay ang Binhi — At Patuloy Itong Namumunga

"Ang binhi ay ang salita ng Dios." (Lucas 8:11)

Sa Talinghaga ng Manghahasik (Mateo 13:1–23), hindi kailanman sinabi ni Jesus na mawawala ang binhi, ni magbabago ito. Ang binhi — ang Salita — ay pareho pa rin, gayon pa rin. Kapag ito'y itinanim sa mabuting puso, ang ani ay kagaya rin ng sa unang siglo: mga tumalima na  mananampalatayang idinagdag ng Panginoon sa iglesia (Gawa 2:47).

Hindi natin kailangang “itayo-muli” (restore) ang iglesia. Ihasik o itanim lamang natin ang binhi — at mamumunga ito ng mga mananampalataya na bubuo sa iglesia na gaya ng dati.

IV. “Ang Inililigtas Araw-Araw” — Noon at Ngayon

"Na nangagpupuri sa Dios, at nangagtatamo ng paglingap ng buong bayan. At idinaragdag sa kanila ng Panginoon araw-araw yaong nangaliligtas."

(Gawa 2:47)

Ang pandiwa ay nagpapakita ng tuloy-tuloy na pagkilos — “araw-araw.” Hanggang ngayon, idinaragdag pa rin ng Panginoon ang mga matalimahin sa pananampalataya, gaya noong una. Hindi natin kailangang humanap ng restored denomination, council, o kilusan. Ang Panginoon mismo ang nagdadagdag sa iglesia, sa Kaniyang katawan.

Unawain ito:

  • 1 Corinto 12:13 — "Sapagka't sa isang Espiritu ay binautismuhan tayong lahat sa isang katawan..."
  • Colosas 1:18 — "At siya ang ulo ng katawan, sa makatuwid baga'y ng iglesia..."

Kung ang may-ari ng katawan ay narito pa (umiiral pa) — ganon din ang Kanyang iglesia.

V. Totoo ang Pagtalikod — Ngunit Hindi Nawala ang Katotohanan

"Nguni't hayag na sinasabi ng Espiritu, na sa mga huling panahon ang iba'y magsisitalikod sa pananampalataya..." (1 Timoteo 4:1)

Pansinin maiigi ang sinasabi ng talata: "ang iba'y magsisitalikod," hindi lahat.

Tao ang tumatalikod, hindi ang katotohanan. Ang Salita ng Diyos ay hindi nawawala kahit na ito’y tinatalikuran ng marami:

"Datapuwa't ang salita ng Panginoon ay nananatili magpakailan man. At ito ang salitang ipinangaral sa inyo." (1 Pedro 1:25)

Tulad ng bilin ni Pablo kay Timoteo — “Ipangaral mo ang salita, maging handa ka sa kapanahunan at di kapanahunan” (2 Tim. 4:2) — hindi tayo tinawag upang magpanumbalik (magrestore) ng iglesiang itinayo ni Cristo na plinano naman ng Dios, kundi upang maghayag o ipangaral ang katotohanang naririto at umiiral pa.

Konklusyon: Walang Dapat Itayong-muli — Ipangaral ang Umiiral na Ebanghelyo Lamang

Ang tinatawag na “restoration principle” ay umaasa sa ideya na may naglaho at kailangang muling itayo. Ngunit ayon sa Salita ng Diyos, ang mas dakilang katotohanan ay ito: wala namang nawala sa itinayo ng Diyos. Ang iglesia ay nariyan. Ang Ebanghelyo ay gumagawa pa rin. Ang Panginoon ay nagdadagdag pa rin.

" Sapagka't, Ang lahat na nagsisitawag sa pangalan ng Panginoon ay mangaliligtas. Paano nga silang magsisitawag doon sa hindi nila sinampalatayanan? at paano silang magsisisampalataya sa kaniya na hindi nila napakinggan? at paano silang mangakikinig na walang tagapangaral?"
(Roma 10:13–14)

Kaya't ipangaral lamang natin Ebanghelyo. Walang bahay na kailangang itayong muli — ipahayag lamang natin ang batong panulukan.

þ Mga Buod na Katotohanan:

  • Ang iglesia ng Diyos ay hindi kailanman nawala, kahit madalas ay iniiwan ng tao.
  • Ang binhi ng Salita ay patuloy na namumunga tulad noon, gaya ng dati.
  • Hindi tayo tinawag upang magrestore, kundi upang ipangaral ang umiiral nang katotohanan.
  • Ang Salita ng Diyos ay nananatili magpakailanman, gayundin ang katawan ni Cristo.
