Doctrinal Refutation of LGBTQ+ in Light of 1 Corinthians 6:9–11

“Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.” (1Cor. 6:9-11)


I. INTRODUCTION: The Most Critical Battle for the Soul of the Church

In the face of a growing movement that seeks to normalize LGBTQ+ identity within the church—arguing that “as long as they don’t practice homosexual sex, it’s acceptable”—we turn to God’s inspired Word, not cultural trends, for the truth. One prominent preacher even argues that effeminate behavior, gay gestures, and homosexual identity are acceptable if not accompanied by sexual acts.

This logic is not only foreign to the gospel, but in direct contradiction to the explicit teaching of 1 Corinthians 6:9–11. The verse clearly declares that those who practice such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God—but it also gloriously announces that some have been changed.

And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified…” – 1 Corinthians 6:11

This study proves that no aspect of the former sinful identity—whether action, appearance, or desire—is permitted to remain in those who are truly born of God.


II. TEXTUAL EXPOSITION: 1 Corinthians 6:9–11 (Greek Parsing)

Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind…” (v.9)

Greek Keywords:

  1. Malakoi (μαλακοί) – translated “effeminate”
    • Meaning: Soft, effeminate, unmanly, morally weak
    • Usage in context: Describes men who assume feminine traits or roles, often in the passive role in homosexual acts.
    • Not limited to sex acts, but includes appearance, demeanor, behavior.
  2. Arsenokoitai (ἀρσΡνοκοῖται) – translated “abusers of themselves with mankind”
    • Meaning: Compound of arsΔ“n (male) and koitΔ“ (bed); literally "men who bed men."
    • Refers to active homosexual practice.
    • Used again in 1 Tim. 1:10 and directly condemned as sinful.

Thus, both effeminacy (identity/behavior) and homosexual activity (acts) are condemned.


III. CONTEXTUAL ANALYSIS

Paul writes to former pagans who had been converted to Christianity. Corinth was a center of immorality and homosexuality. The church was infiltrated by such sins—but Paul affirms that these sins were left behind:

And such were some of you: but ye are washed…” (v.11)

Point:

This phrase (“such WERE some of you”) is past tense. The behaviors, identities, and desires listed are not compatible with life in Christ. To continue identifying with them is to deny the power of regeneration.


IV. REFUTING THE FALSE ARGUMENTS

Argument 1: “They’re accepted as long as they don’t commit gay sex.”

Refutation:
The Greek word malakoi includes behavior, not just sex acts. This includes:

  • Feminine gestures
  • Speech and mannerisms associated with gender inversion
  • Deliberate presentation of gender confusion

Romans 12:2: “Be not conformed to this world...”
Ephesians 5:3: “Let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints.”


Argument 2: “You’re being judgmental.”

Refutation:
This is the very tactic of Sodom. When Lot rebuked them, they accused him of “judging”:

This one came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge...” – Genesis 19:9

Calling sin sin is not judgment—it’s obedience.

He that is spiritual judgeth all things…” – 1 Corinthians 2:15
Judge righteous judgment.” – John 7:24


Argument 3: “They were born that way.”

Refutation:
Every sinner has fleshly tendencies. That’s exactly why Christ said:

Ye must be born again.” – John 3:7

If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away...” – 2 Corinthians 5:17

The gospel is about transformation, not accommodation.


Argument 4: “As long as they don’t act on it…”

1. If we follow this logic, then:

If someone claims to be a Christian yet still identifies with the label “gay,” we must ask:

  • What about the others listed in the same passage? Are there “Christian fornicators”? “Christian idolaters”? “Christian thieves”?
  • What “label” do the covetous, drunkards, revilers, and extortioners carry in the church—if they’ve truly repented?
  • Is it acceptable for someone to say, “I’m a Christian thief, but I don’t steal anymore”? Or “I’m a Christian adulterer, but I don’t act on it”?
  • If not, then why should effeminate men (malakoi) and homosexuals (arsenokoitai) be the only ones given a special exception?

To consistently interpret this passage (1 Cor. 6:9–11), we must acknowledge that none of the unrighteous identities listed are to remain in a Christian—not even in name, desire, or expression.

And such were some of you...” – 1 Corinthians 6:11
Not “such still are some of you,” but were—past tense.

 

2. If we accept the logic that it’s fine to maintain sinful desires or labels “as long as they’re not acted upon,” then we must also accept:

  • I can keep pornography in my house, as long as I don’t watch it.
  • I can harbor murderous rage, as long as I don’t commit murder.
  • I can covet my neighbor’s wife, as long as I don’t steal her.
  • I can fantasize homosexual acts, as long as I don’t perform them.

This is not righteousness. It’s deception cloaked in self-restraint.

Refutation:
Jesus taught that sin begins in the heart:

Whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.” – Matthew 5:28

God does not merely judge actions—He judges thoughts, identities, desires, and the secret intentions of the heart.

Every thought [must be] brought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.” – 2 Corinthians 10:5


V. THEOLOGICAL FOUNDATION: Sanctification Requires Total Transformation

1 Thessalonians 4:3

For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication…”

Ephesians 4:22–24

Put off concerning the former conversation the old man… and be renewed in the spirit of your mind.

Romans 6:1–2

Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid.


VI. HOMOSEXUALITY IN SCRIPTURE: Always Condemned

  • Genesis 19 – The men of Sodom sought male-to-male sex; they were judged with fire.
  • Leviticus 18:22 – “Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with womankind: it is abomination.
  • Romans 1:26–28 – God gave them over to “vile affections… men with men working that which is unseemly.”
  • 1 Timothy 1:10 – Paul includes arsenokoitai among lawless sinners.

Never is there a positive mention or redeeming example of homosexual identity or practice in the Bible.


VII. CHURCH DISCIPLINE: This Must Be Addressed Boldly

If someone persists in identifying as gay—even without sexual acts—they must be lovingly shown Scripture and called to repentance.

Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.” – 1 Timothy 5:20
A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.” – 1 Corinthians 5:6

Churches that tolerate open LGBTQ+ identity, mannerisms, and expression open themselves to God’s judgment.


VIII. CONCLUSION: The Gospel Saves From, Not With, Sin

Paul’s words remain eternally true:

And such were some of you…” – 1 Cor. 6:11

Not, “such still are some of you.”
The church is a hospital, yes—but not a place where disease is celebrated.

Ni ang mga magnanakaw, ni ang mga masasakim, ni ang mga manglalasing, ni ang mga mapagtungayaw, ni ang mga manglulupig, ay hindi mangagmamana ng kaharian ng Dios. At ganyan ang mga ilan sa inyo: nguni't nangahugasan na kayo, nguni't binanal na kayo, nguni't inaring-ganap na kayo sa pangalan ng Panginoong Jesucristo, at sa Espiritu ng ating Dios.” (1Cor. 6:9-11)


I. PANIMULA: Isa sa mga Pinakamapanganib na Laban Para sa Iglesia

Sa harap ng lumalaganap na katuruan na sinasabing “ang pagiging bakla o tomboy (o LGBTQ+) ay katanggap-tanggap sa iglesia basta’t hindi nila ginagawa ang homosexual na pagtatalik,” ay wala po itong katotohanan, tayo ay tumitindig sa Banal na Kasulatan, hindi sa kung ano ang uso ng mundo o opinion ng nakararami. May mga nangangaral at nagsasabing okay lang ang:

  • kilos-babae
  • pananalita at kilos na halatang bakla o tomboy
  • nagpapakilalang gay
  • basta’t hindi sila nakikipagtalik sa kapwa lalaki o babae.

Ang ganitong pag-iisip o lohika ay hindi mababasa sa ebanghelyo, kundi tuwirang salungat sa malinaw na turo ng 1 Corinto 6:9–11. Sa tekstong ito, makikita nating lahat ng ganyang pamumuhay ay hindi makapapasok sa kaharian ng Diyos—subalit ang nagbago na ay may pag-asa.

"At ganyan ang ilan sa inyo noon: ngunit kayo'y hinugasan na, pinabanal na, at inaring-ganap..." – 1 Corinto 6:11

Itinuturo ng Kasulatan na ang isang tunay na ligtas ay iniwan na ang dating pagkatao—kasama ang mga kilos, pagkakakilanlan, at pagnanasa ng dating makasalanang pamumuhay.


II. PAGSUSURI NG TEKSTO: 1 Corinto 6:9–11 (Griyego)

Hindi baga ninyo nalalaman na ang mga liko ay hindi magmamana ng kaharian ng Diyos? Huwag kayong padaya: ni ang mga mapakiapid, ni ang mga sumasamba sa diyus-diyosan, ni ang mga mangangalunya, ni ang mga binabae, ni ang mga mapakiapid sa kapwa lalaki…” – 1 Cor. 6:9

Mga Salitang Griyego na dapat suriin at unawain sa kontexto ng buong kasulatan:

  1. Malakoi (μαλακοί) – isinalin na “mga binabae”
    • Kahulugan: Malambot, kilos-babae, mahina sa moralidad
    • Tinutukoy hindi lang ang sex act, kundi ang mga kilos, anyo, galaw, o pamumuhay na taliwas sa likas na kasarian.
  2. Arsenokoitai (ἀρσΡνοκοῖται) – isinalin na “nakikiapid sa kapwa lalaki”
    • Kahulugan: “lalaki” (arsΔ“n) + “higaan” (koitΔ“) – mga nakikipagtalik sa kapwa lalaki.
    • Tinutukoy ang aktibong homosekswal na gawain.

Parehong ang pagkakakilanlan/kilos (malakoi) at gawa (arsenokoitai) ay tahasang kinokondena sa Banal na Kasulatan..


III. KONTEKSTO: Isang Lungsod ng Imoralidad

Ang Corinto ay isang lungsod na kilala sa imoralidad at homosekswalidad. Ngunit sa kanyang sulat, ipinaalala ni Pablo na:

At ganyan ang ilan sa inyo noon...” (v.11)

Ang mga gawaing ito, pagkakakilanlan, at kasuotan ay hindi na bahagi ng isang Kristiyanong niligtas na.


IV. PAGSANSALA SA MGA MALI AT KARUMALDUMAL NA PANGANGATWIRAN

Pangangatwiran 1: “Okay lang sila basta’t hindi sila nakikipagtalik sa kapwa lalaki o kapwa babae.”

Sagot:
Ang salitang malakoi ay sumasaklaw sa kilos at itsura—hindi lang aktong sekswal. Kaya't ito’y hindi pinahihintulutan at kinokondena sa Bagong Tipan:

  • ang umasta, magsalita o kumilos bakla o tomboy
  • magbihis ng salungat sa tunay na kasarian
  • kahit pa walang sex act

Roma 12:2 – “Huwag kayong makiayon sa takbo ng sanlibutang ito...”

Efeso 5:3 – “Huwag man lamang banggitin sa inyo ang alinmang uri ng kahalayan, gaya ng nababagay sa mga banal.


Pangangatwiran 2: “Judgmental ka.”

Sagot:
Ito mismo ang sinabi ng mga taga-Sodoma kay Lot noon:

Sinong humirang sa iyo upang maging hukom sa amin?” – Genesis 19:9

Hindi paghuhusga ang pagsasabi ng katotohanan mula sa Kasulatan.

1 Corinto 2:15 – “Ang taong espiritwal ay naghuhusga ng lahat ng bagay...”

Juan 7:24 – “Humusga kayo ng makatarungang paghuhusga.”

Isa 5:20-21 –  “Sa aba nila na nagsisitawag ng mabuti ay masama, at ng masama ay mabuti; na inaaring dilim ang liwanag, at liwanag ang dilim; na inaaring mapait ang matamis, at matamis ang mapait! Sa aba nila na pantas sa kanilang sariling mga mata, at mabait sa kanilang sariling paningin!


Pangangatwiran 3: “Eh ganito na talaga ako, ipinanganak akong ganito.”

Sagot:
Tayong lahat ay ipinanganak na may kalikasang gumawa ng kasalanan at sa mundong pinaghaharian ng kasalanan—subalit naparito sa mundo ring ito ang Anak ng Dios at binigyan naman ang tao ng karapatan, kung naisin niya, ang muling “ipanganak ng tubig at ng Espiritu upang makapapasok sa kaharian ng Dios.”! (Juan 3:3-5)

Kinakailangan ngang kayo'y ipanganak na muli.” – Juan 3:7

Ang sinumang na kay Cristo ay bago nang nilalang...” – 2 Corinto 5:17


Pangangatwiran 4: “Okay lang, basta’t hindi naman ginagawa...”

Sagot:

1.     Kung tatanggapin o papayag tayo sa ganitong katuwiran…
Nangangahulugan na kung ang isang tao ay nagpapakilalang Kristiyano pero patuloy pa ring ginagamit ang label na “bakla” o “gay,” dapat itong tanungin nang malinaw:

  • Paano naman ang iba pang binanggit sa parehong talata?  Mayroon bang “Kristiyanong mapakiapid”? “Kristiyanong sumasamba sa diyus-diyosan”? “Kristiyanong magnanakaw”?
  • Ano ang tawag natin sa mga masakim, manginginom, mapanirang puri, at manlalamang na nagsabing sila’y Kristiyano? Pinapanatili rin ba nila ang dating label (o pagkakakilanlan) nila?
  • Katanggap-tanggap ba kung may magsabi: “Kristiyano akong magnanakaw, pero hindi ko na ito ginagawa”? O “Kristiyano akong mangangalunya, pero hanggang pantasya na lang”?
  • Kung hindi natin tinatanggap ito sa iba, bakit sa mga binabae (malakoi) at nakikiapid sa kapwa lalaki (arsenokoitai) lang tayo nagbibigay ng espesyal na palusot?

Ang tamang pag-unawa sa 1 Corinto 6:9–11 ay nagsasabing lahat ng nabanggit na uri ng makasalanan ay hindi na dapat taglayin ng isang tunay na Kristiyano—hindi sa pangalan, hindi sa kilos, at hindi sa pagnanasa.

At ganyan ang ilan sa inyo noon...” – 1 Corinto 6:11
Hindi sinabi, “Ganyan pa rin kayo ngayon.” Noon, hindi ngayon. Ibig sabihin ay "dati yun," tapos na, lumipas na, wala na!

2.     Kung tatanggapin natin ang lohika na ayos lang ang manatiling may makasalanang pagnanasa o label basta’t hindi ito ginagawa, edi maaari na ring:

  • Magtago ng pornograpiya sa bahay, basta’t hindi ito pinapanood
  • Magkimkim ng galit na pagpatay, basta’t hindi naman pinapatay
  • Magnasa sa asawa ng kapwa, basta’t hindi inaagaw
  • Magpantasya ng pakikipagtalik sa kapwa lalaki, basta’t hindi ginagawa

Hindi ito kabanalan—ito’y panlilinlang na binalutan ng disiplina sa labas pero bulok ang loob.

Pagpapabulaan sa Hidwang Pangangatwiran:
Maliwanag ang turo ni Jesus: Ang kasalanan ay nagsisimula sa puso.

Ang sinumang tumingin sa babae na may pagnanasa ay nangalunya na sa kanyang puso.” – Mateo 5:28

Hindi lamang gawa ang hinahatulan ng Diyos—kundi pati ang iniisip, minimithi, inaasam, at pagkakakilanlan ng isang tao.

At bihagin ang bawa’t pag-iisip upang pasakop kay Cristo.” – 2 Corinto 10:5


V. DOKTRINA NG PAGBABAGO: Ang Tunay na Kaligtasan ay Nagbubura sa Dating Ikaw o Pagkatao

1 Tesalonica 4:3 – “Ito ang kalooban ng Diyos: ang inyong pagpapakabanal...”

Efeso 4:22–24 – “Hubarin ang dating pagkatao... at magbagong-loob...”

Roma 6:1–2 – “Magpapatuloy ba tayo sa kasalanan...? Huwag nawang mangyari!


VI. KASULATANG TAHASANG TUMUTULIGSA SA HOMOSEKSWALIDAD (o LGBTQ+)

  • Genesis 19 – Ang Sodom ay nilipol dahil sa homosekswal na kagustuhan
  • Levitico 18:22 – “Huwag kang hihiga sa kapwa lalaki gaya ng sa babae: ito ay karumaldumal.”
  • Roma 1:26–28 – “PinasamΓ’ ng Diyos ang kanilang pagnanasa...”
  • 1 Timoteo 1:10 – Kabilang ang arsenokoitai sa mga salarin

Walang positibong halimbawa o pagtanggap ng homosekswalidad saanmang bahagi ng Bibliya.


VII. DISIPLINA SA LOOB NG IGLESIA

Ang sinumang patuloy na nagpapakilalang “gay Christian,” o nagpapakita ng gay na kilos o asta na salungat sa tunay na kasarian ay dapat kausapin sa pag-ibig, ngunit sa pundasyon ng katotohanan.

Ang nagkakasala ay sawayin sa harapan ng lahat...” – 1 Tim. 5:20

Ang kaunting lebadura ay pinapapaalsa ang buong masa.” – 1 Cor. 5:6

Ang iglesia na pinapayagan ang LGBTQ+ identity at expression ay inilalagay ang sarili sa hatol ng Diyos.


VIII. KONKLUSYON: Inililigtas Tayo ng Ebanghelyo MULA sa Kasalanan, Hindi KASAMA ang Kasalanan

At ganyan ang ilan sa inyo noon...” – 1 Cor. 6:11

Hindi, “Ganyan pa rin kayo ngayon.”

Ang iglesia ay ospital ng may sakit (spiritually), oo—pero hindi ito dapat maging tahanan ng lason.


TANDAAN:

Walang ipinapanganak na ‘homosexual na Kristiyano’—gaya rin ng walang ipinapanganak na magnanakaw, manlalasing, o tulisan na Kristiyano. Lahat tayo ay dapat ipanganak na muli. Ang tunay na kaligtasan ay hindi nagpaparaya sa dating ikaw, kundi manatiling malinis, banal, at inaring-ganap.

PANGHULI:

Ang iglesia ay hindi padamihan ng bilang ng kaanib—ang katotohanan ay hindi idinadaan sa dami kundi sa dalisay na aral. Mas maraming masasaktan, pero kailangang manaig ang kalooban ng Dios. Sabi ng Panginoon, “Makipot ang pintuan at makitid ang daan, at kakaunti ang nangakakasumpong nito.” (Mateo 7:13–14)

Hindi rin ito palakasan ng pagtawag ng “Panginoon, Panginoon,” kundi pagsunod sa kalooban ng Ama. Sa huli, marami ang mag-iisip na sila'y ligtas, pero sasabihin ng Panginoon, “Kailanma’y hindi ko kayo nakilala.” (Mateo 7:21–23)
