Romans 6:1-2 — The Deathblow to OSAS with One Simple Question

"What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? - Romans 6:1-2

Can You Keep Sinning and Still Be Saved? Paul Says: Absolutely Not!

Some claim, “Once Saved, Always Saved” (OSAS)—but what if one simple question from Paul demolishes that doctrine entirely? In Romans 6:1-2, the apostle confronts the dangerous logic that grace gives license to sin. His answer is sharp, unshakable, and Spirit-inspired. This short but powerful passage doesn’t just challenge OSAS—it delivers the deathblow. Ready to face the truth?

Q: Who is speaking in Romans 6:1?

A: The apostle Paul—a faithful Christian, divinely inspired.

Q: Who does the word "we" refer to?

A: To Paul and other Christians. Those already saved, baptized, and walking in the faith.

Q: What question does Paul ask in Romans 6:1?

A: “Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?”

Q: Why is this question important?

A: Because it directly addresses a false conclusion people might draw:

“If God’s grace covers sin, then maybe we can keep sinning and still be saved.”

Q: What is Paul’s answer?

A: “God forbid!” (Greek: mē genoito – Absolutely not!; Never!)

He follows with: “How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?”

Q: If a saved Christian continues in sin, does grace still abound for him, based on this passage?

A: No. Paul says that is contrary to the purpose of grace.

Christians are dead to sin, not licensed to live in it.

Q: What does this do to the doctrine of “Once Saved, Always Saved”?

A: It destroys it.

If OSAS were true, Paul should have answered: “Yes, grace will still abound even if we continue in sin.”

But instead, he said:

“Absolutely not!”

Q: So, can a Christian lose salvation if he chooses to continue in sin?

A: According to Paul in Romans 6 and many other passages (Gal. 5:4; Heb. 10:26), yes.

Grace is not a shield for rebellion—it is a gift for those who walk in the light (1 John 1:7).

"We must not continue in sin and assume grace will cover it. That is not love of the truth—that is abuse of grace."

Ang Wumasak sa OSAS sa Isang Simpleng Tanong

Ano nga ang ating sasabihin? Magpapatuloy baga tayo sa pagkakasala upang ang biyaya ay makapanagana? Huwag nawang mangyari. Tayong mga patay na sa pagkakasala, paano nga tayong mabubuhay pa riyan? - Roma 6:1-2

Maaari Ka Bang Magpatuloy sa Kasalanan at Manatiling Ligtas? Sabi ni Pablo: Hinding-Hindi!

May mga nagsasabing, “Kapag Naligtas na, Laging Ligtas” (Once Saved, Always Saved or OSAS)—ngunit paano kung sa isang simpleng tanong ni Pablo ay ganap na winawasak ang doktrinang iyan? Sa Roma 6:1-2, tahasang hinarap ng apostol ang maling kaisipang puwedeng abusuhin ang biyaya ng Diyos. Ang sagot niya ay matalim, maliwanag, at galing sa Espiritu Santo. Hindi lang hamon ang aral na ito sa OSAS—kundi ang sinabing ito ni Pablo sa mga taga-Roma ay tunay na dagok sa hidwang paniniwalang "Kapag Naligtas na, Laging Ligtas." Handa ka na bang harapin ang katotohanan?

Tara, unawain natin ang pahayag ni apostol Pablo sa Roma 6:1-2.

Tanong: Sino ang nagsasalita sa Roma 6:1?

Sagot: Ang apostol Pablo—isang tapat na Kristiyano, at kinasihan ng Diyos.

Tanong: Kanino tumutukoy ang salitang “tayo”?

Sagot: Kay Pablo at sa mga kapwa Kristiyano. Mga taong ligtas na, nabautismuhan, at lumalakad sa pananampalataya.

Tanong: Ano ang tanong bilang hamon ni Pablo sa Roma 6:1?

Sagot: “Magpapatuloy ba tayo sa kasalanan upang ang biyaya ay sumagana?”

Tanong: Bakit mahalaga ang tanong na ito?

Sagot: Dahil tinutukoy nito ang maling akala ng ilan:

“Kung tinatakpan ng biyaya ng Diyos ang kasalanan, baka pwede tayong magpatuloy sa kasalanan at ligtas pa rin.”

Tanong: Ano ang sagot ni Pablo?

Sagot: “Huwag nawang mangyari!”

(Griyego: mē genoito – Sadyang hindi!; Kailanman ay hindi!)

Sinundan pa niya ito ng: “Paanong tayo na patay na sa kasalanan ay mabubuhay pa riyan?”

Tanong: Kung ang isang Kristiyanong ligtas ay patuloy na nagkakasala, ayon sa talatang ito, mananatili pa ba ang biyaya sa kaniya?

Sagot: Hindi.

Sabi ni Pablo, salungat ito sa layunin ng biyaya.

Ang mga Kristiyano ay patay na sa kasalanan, hindi binigyan ng pahintulot na mamuhay dito.

Tanong: Ano ang epekto nito sa doktrinang “Kapag Naligtas na, Laging Ligtas” (Once Saved, Always Saved, OSAS)?

Sagot: Winawasak nito ang hidwang paniniwalang ito!

Kung totoo ang OSAS, dapat ang sagot ni Pablo ay: “Oo, mananatili pa rin ang biyaya kahit magpatuloy tayo sa kasalanan.”

Pero ang sabi niya ay:

“Huwag nawang mangyari!”

Tanong: Ibig bang sabihin nito ay maaaring mawala ang kaligtasan ng isang Kristiyano kung pinili niyang magpatuloy sa kasalanan?

Sagot: Oo. Ito ay ayon kay Pablo sa Roma 6:2 at sa iba pang mga talata (Gal. 5:4; Heb. 10:26).

Ang biyaya ay hindi "pahintulot" sa pagsalangsang—ito’y kaloob ng Diyos para sa mga lumalakad sa liwanag (1 Juan 1:7).

Konklusyon para sa Matuwid na Tagapagsuri ng Katotohanan:

Hindi tayo dapat magpatuloy sa kasalanan at asahang tatakpan ito ng biyaya. Hindi ito pagmamahal sa katotohanan—ito’y pang-aabuso sa biyaya ng Diyos.
