CHRISTIAN WOMEN AND THE VEIL IN PRAYER — Chapter 5

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog ⟵ Previous Next ⟶ APOLOGETIC DEFENSE 1 Corinthians 11:2-16 Chapter 5 APOLOGETIC DEFENSE The teaching of the head covering has not only been questioned by brethren but mocked or dismissed by the world. Feminism views it as oppression. Denominationalism often calls it non-essential. Skeptics call it outdated. Yet when we allow Scripture to interpret Scripture, and apply careful reasoning, the case stands unshakable. 5.1 The Appeal to Adam and Eve Whenever Scripture anchors a doctrine in Adam and Eve, it declares it to be timeless: ·      Marriage — Jesus: “From the beginning it was not so” (Matt. 19:4–6). ·      Women’s silence in the church — Paul: “For Adam was first formed, then Eve” (1 Tim. 2:13). ·      Head covering — Paul: “For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man” (1 Cor. 11:8). CHRISTIAN WOMEN AND THE VEIL IN PRAYER — Introduction

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog ⟵ Previous Next ⟶ INTRODUCTION 1 Corinthians 11:2–16 INTRODUCTION Among the many teachings of the apostle Paul, few have been more debated, neglected, or misunderstood in modern times than his words in 1 Corinthians 11:2–16 concerning the veil. For some, this passage is dismissed as an artifact of ancient Corinthian culture. For others, it is embraced but with little understanding of its depth and significance. Paul begins his instruction by commending the Corinthians for keeping the ordinances as delivered (1 Cor. 11:2) and ends by affirming that what he has taught is the uniform practice of all the churches of God (v. 16). Between those verses, he builds a layered argument that appeals not to cul...

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog ⟵ Previous Next ⟶ PREFACE The Purpose Of This Lecture Series PREFACE The purpose of this lecture series is simple yet vital: to let the Scriptures speak plainly on a matter that many today either neglect or dismiss—the wearing of the veil by Christian women in prayer. Through the centuries, the people of God have struggled not only with false doctrines introduced by men but also with the temptation to reduce the commands of God to mere matters of culture, convenience, or opinion. This study is not born out of a desire to argue for traditions of men but out of a commitment to uphold the inspired Word of God, which alone is our standard of faith and practice. In 1 Corinthians 11:2–16, the apostle Paul presents a teaching that is not cultural, temporary, or optional. His reasoning is rooted in headship, creation order, angelic witness, and the practice of all the churches of God. To dismiss such tea...
