"Believe That Ye Receive Them, And Ye Shall Have Them."

Text: Mark 11:24

Introduction

This Bible sermon explains the true meaning of Mark 11:24, where Jesus teaches about believing prayer. Many misunderstand this verse as a promise that God will grant any request, but Scripture shows that prayer must be made in Christ’s name, according to His will, and from a life of obedience. Learn what the Bible really teaches about faithful prayer.

Brethren and friends, listen carefully to the words of our Lord Jesus Christ in Mark 11:24:

“Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.”

This verse is powerful. It is encouraging. It strengthens our faith in prayer. But it is also one of the most misunderstood verses in the Bible today. Many people read this passage and think that Jesus is giving believers a blank check — that whatever we desire, God is obligated to give it to us. And because of this misunderstanding, some have turned prayer into something that resembles a spiritual formula or a religious mantra.

You may have heard people say things like this: “In Jesus’ name makakapag-abroad ka.” Or, “In Jesus’ name yayaman ka.” As if simply attaching the phrase “in Jesus’ name” to a statement suddenly guarantees that God must fulfill it. But brethren, that is not biblical faith. That is superstition dressed in Christian language.

The words of Christ must always be understood in harmony with the rest of Scripture. The Bible never contradicts itself. If we want to understand what Jesus meant in Mark 11:24, we must allow the whole counsel of God to explain it.

First, we must understand what it means to ask “in the name of Jesus.” Many think it is merely a phrase we say at the end of prayer. But in the Bible, a name represents authority. Jesus Himself said in John 14:14, “If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.” But that does not mean we can ask anything our human heart desires. It means we must ask according to His authority.

The apostle Paul explained this principle clearly in Colossians 3:17: “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus.” To do something in the name of Christ means to do it under His authority and according to His teaching. Just as a messenger who acts in the name of a king must carry the king’s command and not his own idea, so our prayers must align with the will of Christ.

Second, the Bible teaches that prayer is connected to obedience. The apostle John wrote in 1 John 3:22, “And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.” Did you hear that carefully? The promise is connected to a condition. The people whose prayers are heard are those who are striving to live in obedience to God.

Again John says in 1 John 5:14, “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us.” Notice those words — according to his will. Prayer is not about bending God’s will to match our desires. Prayer is about bringing our hearts into submission to His will.

Consider the example of Jesus Himself. In the garden of Gethsemane, facing the agony of the cross, He prayed, “O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me.” But He did not stop there. He said, “Nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt” (Matthew 26:39). Even the Son of God prayed with submission to the will of the Father.

Now think about the apostles. Paul prayed three times that his thorn in the flesh would be removed. But God did not remove it. Instead, the Lord said, “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9). Even a faithful apostle did not receive everything he requested. Why? Because God’s wisdom is greater than our desires.

Brethren, prayer is not magic. It is not a formula. It is not a verbal key that unlocks unlimited blessings. True prayer is the humble request of a faithful heart that trusts God’s wisdom. It is the voice of a child speaking to the Father.  (Gal 3:26-27 — "For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.")

But there is another truth we must remember. Sometimes people promise blessings that God Himself has not promised. They say, “Believe and you will be rich.” “Believe and you will have success.” “Believe and all your problems will disappear.” Yet the same Jesus who spoke Mark 11:24 also said in John 16:33, “In the world ye shall have tribulation.”

Faith does not guarantee riches. Faith guarantees God’s presence. Faith does not promise an easy life. Faith promises eternal life for those who remain faithful.

And so the real question is not, “Can I get everything I want?” The real question is, “Is my heart aligned with the will of God?” (Read 1 Peter 3:12.)

“For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.”

My friends, perhaps someone reading this message has been praying but living in disobedience. Perhaps someone is asking God for blessings while ignoring His commandments. The Bible does not teach that kind of prayer. The Lord hears the prayers of those who seek Him sincerely and walk in His ways.

But above all, the greatest prayer a person must make is not for wealth, success, or travel to another country. The greatest prayer is the prayer for salvation. Jesus came into the world to save sinners. The gospel calls every soul to respond to Him in obedient faith.

The Scriptures teach that we must believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God (John 8:24). We must repent of our sins (Acts 17:30). We must confess the name of Christ before men (Romans 10:9–10). And we must be baptized for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38). In baptism, the Lord washes away our sins and adds us to His church.

And if you are already a Christian but your faith has grown weak, if your prayers have become empty words, the Lord calls you to return. Repent. Renew your devotion. Draw near to God again.

Brethren and friends, prayer is one of the greatest privileges God has given His people. But it must be offered with faith, obedience, and submission to His will. When we pray according to the authority of Christ and the will of God, we can have true confidence that the Lord hears us.

So let us ask ourselves tonight:

When we pray, are we trying to control God with words… or are we humbly submitting our hearts to His will?

For the answer to that question may determine not only the power of our prayers — but the destiny of our souls.

"Magsisampalataya Kayo Na Inyong Tinanggap Na, At Inyong Kakamtin"

Teksto: Marcos 11:24

Panimula

O kaya, “In Jesus’ name yayaman ka.”

Ngunit may isa pang mahalagang katotohanan.

The Origin and Error of “Once Saved, Always Saved” (OSAS): A Biblical Exposé

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog The Origin and Error of “Once Saved, Always Saved” (OSAS) A Biblical Exposé An Authoritative Study Using the King James Bible Introduction: A Question of Eternal Security The doctrine of Once Saved, Always Saved (OSAS) asserts that once a person is saved, they can never lose their salvation, regardless of future behavior, apostasy, or rebellion. It is often linked with the phrase “eternal security” in Protestant theology. This study examines the origin, evaluates the biblical claims, and provides a full refutation using only the Scripture as the final and only authority. I. Historical Roots of OSAS (A Brief Context) Though many today assume OSAS to be an apostolic doctrine, its systematized form arose from John Calvin's doctrine of Perseverance of the Saints (TULIP), later popularized by Baptist theologians like Charles Stanley and modern evangelical churches. However, early church fathers such as Tertullian, Orige...

The Promise and Importance of Christ’s Church

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog     Next ⟶ The Promise and Importance of Christ’s Church "And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." — Matthew 16:18 (KJV) Introduction The Church of Christ is not a product of human invention or denominational evolution. It is the fulfillment of a divine promise — a structure built not by human hands, but by the Lord Himself. In a time when religious confusion is widespread and thousands of conflicting churches exist, we must return to the simple, authoritative statement of Jesus: “I will build my church.” (Matt. 16:18) These words mark the beginning of a divine blueprint. This was not a vague intention, nor a mystical concept. Jesus was referring to a real, identifiable, and traceable body of people — the church — that He Himself would build, own, and preserve. “I Will Build My Church” — A Divine Dec...

Grace, Faith, and Works

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog Grace, Faith, And Works A Biblical Exegesis Of Ephesians 2:8–10 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” – Ephesians 2:8–10 I. Introduction: Why This Study Matters Now More Than Ever In a religious world increasingly divided by theological confusion and denominational doctrines, few passages are more quoted yet more misunderstood than Ephesians 2:8–10 : “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” While this passage declares foundational truths about salvation, it has been misappropria...

Restoration Movement: The Illusion of Rebuilding What God Preserved

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog There Is Nothing to Restore — Just Preach the Gospel A Doctrinal Exposition Affirming the Ongoing Existence and Perfection of God’s Church Introduction In recent centuries, many sincere believers have spoken of a "restoration movement"—the idea that the true church was lost to history and must now be recovered or re-established. But is this concept biblical? Does Scripture ever indicate that the church built by Christ (Matthew 16:18) would vanish, become corrupted, and need a future restoration? The answer, as revealed in the inspired Word of God, is  no . What God  planned before the foundation of the world  (Ephesians 3:9–11), what Christ  purchased with His own blood  (Acts 20:28), and what was  established in power on Pentecost  (Acts 2),  continues to exist today . While men may depart from the truth, the truth remains. And what we are called to do is not to restore, but to  pre...

The Church Built By Jesus Christ In The New testament - Lesson 1

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog ⟵ Previous Next ⟶ Lesson 1: The Church Planned by God Before the Creation of the Universe Key Passage: Ephesians 3:9–11 “ And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord: ” Introduction The concept of the church is often misunderstood—even among believers. To many, it appears to be an afterthought, a temporary institution until Christ returns, or merely a human denomination among many. But the Scriptures teach otherwise. The church was not an accident. It was not a substitute for a failed plan. It was not an invention of man. It was part of God's eternal purpose , rooted i...

“Jesus Called Us Brethren”

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog "Go and Tell My brethren" Text: “Then Jesus said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. Go and tell My brethren to go to Galilee, and there they will see Me.’” - Matthew 28:10 I. Introduction: The Significance of the Word "Brethren" After His glorious resurrection, Jesus could have referred to His disciples with any term—“servants,” “students,” or “followers.” But He chose the word “brethren.” This word carries weight. It reflects forgiveness, restored fellowship, and most importantly, a shared relationship with the Father. Why does Jesus now call His disciples brethren? What does that mean for us today? And how did we become worthy of such a name? II. Context and Background Let’s recall that before the crucifixion, His disciples deserted Him in fear (Matthew 26:56). Peter even denied Him three times. They failed Him at His darkest hour. Yet, after rising from the grave, Jesus doesn’t rebuke them—He calls them “My b...
