Messianic Prophecies Declaring Divine Identity

THE DEITY OF CHRIST — LECTURE 4

Introduction: The Messiah Foretold — More Than a Man

As we move forward, we now stand on established ground:

  • There is one God
  • The Angel of the LORD reveals a divine person distinct yet fully God

The next question is critical:

What did the Old Testament prophets declare about the coming Messiah?

Was He to be:

  • A mere man?
  • A political deliverer?
  • Or something far greater?

The answer is not left to speculation. The prophets spoke clearly, and their words reveal an undeniable truth:

The Messiah would possess divine identity

I. Isaiah 7:14 — Immanuel: “God With Us”

“Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”

The name Immanuel means:

“God with us”

This is not symbolic language alone—it is a declaration of identity.

Key observations:

  • A child is born
  • Yet the name assigned declares divine presence

This is not:

  • “God helping us”
  • “God near us”

It is:

God WITH us

When this is fulfilled in Matthew 1:23, the interpretation is preserved, not altered.

Therefore, the Messiah is not merely sent by God—

He is God present among His people

II. Isaiah 9:6 — The Child Who Is Called “Mighty God”

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given… and his name shall be called… The mighty God…”

This passage is one of the most explicit declarations.

Hebrew Term: אֵל גִּבּוֹר (El Gibbor)

This exact title appears again in:

Isaiah 10:21 — referring unmistakably to YHWH Himself

Therefore, the same title used for God is given to the Messiah

Key structure:

  • “A child is born” → humanity
  • “Mighty God” → deity

Both truths exist in one person

This is not poetic exaggeration. It is a precise theological statement:

The Messiah is both human and divine

III. Micah 5:2 — Eternal Origins of the Messiah

“…out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.”

Focus on the phrase:

“from everlasting”

Hebrew: “miqqedem, mimei olam”

Meaning:

  • From ancient times
  • From eternity

This is not:

  • A beginning point
  • Nor a created origin

It describes eternal existence

Therefore:

  • The Messiah is born in Bethlehem
  • Yet His existence precedes time itself

This cannot be true of a mere man

IV. The Consistency of Prophetic Testimony

These are not isolated verses. They form a unified testimony:

  • Isaiah 7:14 — God with us
  • Isaiah 9:6 — Mighty God
  • Micah 5:2 — Eternal existence

Together they declare:

The coming Messiah is not merely human—He is divine

The prophets do not contradict each other. They build a consistent revelation.

V. CENI — Establishing the Doctrine

Command (Direct Statements)

  • “Mighty God” (Isaiah 9:6)
  • “God with us” (Isaiah 7:14)

Example

  • Titles used for YHWH applied to the Messiah

Necessary Inference

  • If the Messiah:
    • Is called God
    • Possesses eternal existence

Then He must be God in nature

VI. Apologetic — Answering Common Objections

❌ “These are just symbolic titles”

This fails because:

  • “Mighty God” is used literally for YHWH elsewhere
  • The context is prophetic declaration, not metaphorical poetry

❌ “The Messiah only represents God”

This fails because:

  • Representation does not equal identity
  • The text assigns divine titles, not delegated roles

❌ “Eternal means long time, not eternity”

This fails because:

  • The Hebrew phrase clearly denotes timeless existence
  • It is never used for created beings in this manner

Therefore, these objections cannot stand under careful reading

VII. Polemic — Refuting Doctrinal Error

Some claim:

“The Messiah is only a human king chosen by God”

But this position collapses because:

  1. A mere man cannot be called Mighty God
  2. A created being cannot have eternal origins
  3. No prophet ever gives divine titles lightly

To reduce the Messiah to humanity alone is to ignore the text itself

VIII. The Unity of Scripture — Old Testament to New Testament

When we move into the New Testament:

  • Matthew affirms “Immanuel”
  • John declares the Word was God
  • Christ demonstrates divine authority

The New Testament does not introduce a new idea

It reveals what was already foretold

IX. Spiritual Application — Receiving the True Christ

The importance of this cannot be overstated:

  • If we accept a lesser Christ → we accept a false foundation
  • If we redefine the Messiah → we distort salvation

True faith requires:

Believing Christ as He is revealed in Scripture

Not:

  • As culture defines Him
  • As tradition reshapes Him

But:
As God has declared Him

Conclusion: The Prophets Spoke Clearly

The Old Testament does not leave us guessing.

The Messiah is:

  • Born as a child
  • Present with His people
  • Called Mighty God
  • Existing from eternity

This leads to only one conclusion:

The Messiah is divine

And this prepares us for the next step:

How these prophecies are fulfilled in Christ Himself

I. Isaias 7:14 — Immanuel: “Sumasaatin ang Dios”

“Narito, ang isang dalaga ay magdadalang-tao, at manganganak ng isang lalake, at tatawagin ang kaniyang pangalang Emmanuel.”

Ang ibig sabihin ng Emmanuel (Immanuel) ay:

“Sumasaatin ang Dios”

Hindi ito simpleng pangalan lang. Ito ay pagpapahayag kung sino Siya.

Pansinin:

  • May batang ipapanganak

Makapangyarihang Dios…”

Ito ay napakalinaw na pahayag.

Hebrew: אֵל גִּבּוֹר (El Gibbor)

Ang parehong titulo ay ginamit sa:

Isaias 10:21 — tumutukoy sa mismong Panginoon

Ibig sabihin:

Pansinin:

  • “Ipinanganak ang bata” → pagiging tao
  • “Makapangyarihang Dios” → pagiging Dios

Sa iisang persona:

Tao at Dios

Hindi ito exaggeration. Ito ay eksaktong pahayag ng katotohanan.

III.

IV. Iisang Mensahe ng mga Propeta

Hindi ito hiwa-hiwalay na talata. Iisa ang mensahe:

  • Isaias 7:14 — Dios na kasama natin
  • Isaias 9:6 — Makapangyarihang Dios
  • Mikas 5:2 — Walang hanggang pag-iral

Sama-sama nilang sinasabi:

Kinakailangang Konklusyon

  • Kung Siya ay:
    • Tinatawag na Dios
    • May walang hanggang pag-iral

Siya ay Dios sa kalikasan

VI.

VII. Polemics — Pagtutuwid sa Maling Aral

May nagsasabi:

“Ang Mesiyas ay tao lamang”

Pero mali ito dahil:

  1. Hindi pwedeng tawaging Makapangyarihang Dios ang tao

  • Ipinanganak bilang lalake
  • Sumasaatin ang Dios
  • Tinawag na Makapangyarihang Dios
  • May walang hanggang pag-iral

The Origin and Error of “Once Saved, Always Saved” (OSAS): A Biblical Exposé

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog The Origin and Error of “Once Saved, Always Saved” (OSAS) A Biblical Exposé An Authoritative Study Using the King James Bible Introduction: A Question of Eternal Security The doctrine of Once Saved, Always Saved (OSAS) asserts that once a person is saved, they can never lose their salvation, regardless of future behavior, apostasy, or rebellion. It is often linked with the phrase “eternal security” in Protestant theology. This study examines the origin, evaluates the biblical claims, and provides a full refutation using only the Scripture as the final and only authority. I. Historical Roots of OSAS (A Brief Context) Though many today assume OSAS to be an apostolic doctrine, its systematized form arose from John Calvin's doctrine of Perseverance of the Saints (TULIP), later popularized by Baptist theologians like Charles Stanley and modern evangelical churches. However, early church fathers such as Tertullian, Orige...

The Promise and Importance of Christ’s Church

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog     Next ⟶ The Promise and Importance of Christ’s Church "And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." — Matthew 16:18 (KJV) Introduction The Church of Christ is not a product of human invention or denominational evolution. It is the fulfillment of a divine promise — a structure built not by human hands, but by the Lord Himself. In a time when religious confusion is widespread and thousands of conflicting churches exist, we must return to the simple, authoritative statement of Jesus: “I will build my church.” (Matt. 16:18) These words mark the beginning of a divine blueprint. This was not a vague intention, nor a mystical concept. Jesus was referring to a real, identifiable, and traceable body of people — the church — that He Himself would build, own, and preserve. “I Will Build My Church” — A Divine Dec...

Grace, Faith, and Works

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog Grace, Faith, And Works A Biblical Exegesis Of Ephesians 2:8–10 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” – Ephesians 2:8–10 I. Introduction: Why This Study Matters Now More Than Ever In a religious world increasingly divided by theological confusion and denominational doctrines, few passages are more quoted yet more misunderstood than Ephesians 2:8–10 : “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” While this passage declares foundational truths about salvation, it has been misappropria...

Restoration Movement: The Illusion of Rebuilding What God Preserved

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog There Is Nothing to Restore — Just Preach the Gospel A Doctrinal Exposition Affirming the Ongoing Existence and Perfection of God’s Church Introduction In recent centuries, many sincere believers have spoken of a "restoration movement"—the idea that the true church was lost to history and must now be recovered or re-established. But is this concept biblical? Does Scripture ever indicate that the church built by Christ (Matthew 16:18) would vanish, become corrupted, and need a future restoration? The answer, as revealed in the inspired Word of God, is  no . What God  planned before the foundation of the world  (Ephesians 3:9–11), what Christ  purchased with His own blood  (Acts 20:28), and what was  established in power on Pentecost  (Acts 2),  continues to exist today . While men may depart from the truth, the truth remains. And what we are called to do is not to restore, but to  pre...

The Church Built By Jesus Christ In The New testament - Lesson 1

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog ⟵ Previous Next ⟶ Lesson 1: The Church Planned by God Before the Creation of the Universe Key Passage: Ephesians 3:9–11 “ And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord: ” Introduction The concept of the church is often misunderstood—even among believers. To many, it appears to be an afterthought, a temporary institution until Christ returns, or merely a human denomination among many. But the Scriptures teach otherwise. The church was not an accident. It was not a substitute for a failed plan. It was not an invention of man. It was part of God's eternal purpose , rooted i...

“Jesus Called Us Brethren”

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog "Go and Tell My brethren" Text: “Then Jesus said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. Go and tell My brethren to go to Galilee, and there they will see Me.’” - Matthew 28:10 I. Introduction: The Significance of the Word "Brethren" After His glorious resurrection, Jesus could have referred to His disciples with any term—“servants,” “students,” or “followers.” But He chose the word “brethren.” This word carries weight. It reflects forgiveness, restored fellowship, and most importantly, a shared relationship with the Father. Why does Jesus now call His disciples brethren? What does that mean for us today? And how did we become worthy of such a name? II. Context and Background Let’s recall that before the crucifixion, His disciples deserted Him in fear (Matthew 26:56). Peter even denied Him three times. They failed Him at His darkest hour. Yet, after rising from the grave, Jesus doesn’t rebuke them—He calls them “My b...

The Deathblow to OSAS

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog Romans 6:1-2 — The Deathblow to OSAS with One Simple Question "What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? - Romans 6:1-2 Can You Keep Sinning and Still Be Saved? Paul Says: Absolutely Not! Some claim, “Once Saved, Always Saved” (OSAS)—but what if one simple question from Paul demolishes that doctrine entirely? In  Romans 6:1-2 , the apostle confronts the dangerous logic that grace gives license to sin. His answer is sharp, unshakable, and Spirit-inspired. This short but powerful passage doesn’t just challenge OSAS—it delivers the deathblow. Ready to face the truth? Q: Who is speaking in Romans 6:1? A:  The apostle  Paul —a faithful Christian, divinely inspired. Q: Who does the word "we" refer to? A:  To  Paul and other Christians . Those already  saved ,  baptized , and  wal...
