Refutation of False Doctrines — Exposing Errors Concerning the Nature of Christ

THE DEITY OF CHRIST — LECTURE 14

Introduction: Truth Must Confront Error

The purpose of doctrine is not only to teach truth—

It is also to expose error

Because error:

  • Distorts the identity of Christ
  • Misleads the hearer
  • Endangers the soul

Therefore:

False teachings about Christ must be examined and refuted by Scripture

Not by emotion
Not by tradition

But by the Word of God

THESIS: False Doctrines Collapse Under Scriptural Examination

I. False Doctrine #1 — “Jesus Is Only a Man”

This claim denies the Deity of Christ.

A. Refutation by Direct Statements

John 1:1 — “the Word was God”
John 20:28 — “My Lord and my God”

These are not symbolic
These are explicit

B. Refutation by Works

  • Forgives sins (Mark 2:5–7)
  • Receives worship (Matthew 14:33)

These belong to God alone

Conclusion

Jesus is not only man
Scripture declares Him God

II. False Doctrine #2 — “Jesus Is the First Created Being”

Often based on:

Colossians 1:15 — “the firstborn of every creature”

A. Misunderstanding “Firstborn”

“Firstborn” does not mean:

  • first created

It often means:

  • preeminence
  • rank
  • authority

B. Immediate Context

Colossians 1:16
“For by him were all things created…”

If all things were created by Him:

He cannot be part of creation

Conclusion

“Firstborn” = supremacy
Not origin as a created being

III. False Doctrine #3 — “Jesus Is a Lesser God”

This divides the nature of God.

A. Refutation by Scripture

Isaiah 42:8 — “…my glory will I not give to another…”

God does not share His divine status

B. Christ Receives Full Honor

John 5:23
“…all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father.”

Equal honor
Not lesser. Read the testimony of some verses:

John 5:21 — The Father gives life — the Son also gives life

John 14:1 — Believe in God — believe also in Christ

John 14:9 — Seeing the Son = Seeing the Father

John 5:19 — The Son does what the Father does

John 17:5 — The Son shares the Father’s glory

John 10:30 — The Son is one with the Father

Col. 2:9 — the fullness of God is in Christ

Conclusion

There is no “lesser god”
Christ is fully God

IV. Misused Passage #1 — John 14:28

“…my Father is greater than I.”

A. Immediate Context

Jesus is speaking:

  • During His earthly ministry
  • In His humbled state (cf. Php. 2:6-8)

B. Harmonization with Other Scripture

  • John 1:1 — He is God
  • John 10:30 — “I and my Father are one”

Conclusion

“Greater” refers to:

  • position in context
  • not nature

No contradiction exists

V. Misused Passage #2 — Colossians 1:15

“firstborn of every creature”

A. Context Clarifies Meaning

Colossians 1:16
“For by him were all things created…”

He is Creator
Not created

B. Biblical Usage of “Firstborn”

  • Israel called “firstborn” (Exodus 4:22)
    not first created nation

Meaning:

  • preeminence

Conclusion

“Firstborn” = authority, rank
Not origin

VI. CENI — Refuting Error with Authority

Command

  • Christ is called God

Example

  • Christ acts as God

Necessary Inference

  • Christ must be God

False doctrine fails at all three levels

(For a complete understanding of CENI and biblical authority, click here.)

VII. Apologetic — Why Errors Persist

False doctrines often arise from:

  • Isolating verses
  • Ignoring context
  • Rejecting harmonization

Biblical Principle

Scripture interprets Scripture

No verse stands alone

VIII. Polemic — Exposing the Root Problem

At the root of all these errors:

A refusal to accept the full testimony of Scripture

Instead:

  • selecting preferred verses
  • ignoring others

This results in:

  • contradiction
  • confusion
  • false doctrine

IX. The Consistency of Truth

When all Scripture is considered:

  • Christ is called God
  • Christ acts as God
  • Christ receives worship
  • Christ possesses divine fullness

There is no contradiction
Only confirmation

X. Spiritual Application — Guarding the Truth

Doctrine is not optional.

A false Christ:

  • cannot save
  • cannot reveal God

Therefore:

We must:

  • test all teaching
  • hold to Scripture
  • reject error

Conclusion: Error Cannot Stand Before Truth

False doctrines about Christ:

  • collapse under direct statements
  • fail under contextual reading
  • contradict the whole of Scripture

Therefore:

All teachings that deny the full Deity of Christ are exposed as false when examined by the authority of Scripture.

Final Statement:

The truth of Christ stands firm, and every false doctrine falls when measured against the full testimony of the Word of God.

Konklusyon

Hindi Siya “tao lang”
Siya ay Dios ayon sa Kasulatan

II. Maling Aral #2 — “Nilikhang Nilalang si Jesus”

Karaniwang basehan:

Colosas 1:15 — “panganay ng lahat ng mga nilalang”

A. Mali ang Pag-unawa sa “Panganay”

Hindi ibig sabihin:

  • unang nilikha

Kundi nangangahulugang:

  • may kataasan; kadakilaan; o higit na karangalan
  • may kapangyarihan o ranggo
  • may kapamahalaan o awtoridad

B. Konteksto ang Magpapaliwanag

Colosas 1:16
“Sapagka’t sa kaniya nilalang ang lahat ng mga bagay…”

Kung Siya ang lumilikha:

Hindi Siya nilikha

Konklusyon

“Panganay” = kataasan
Hindi pagiging nilikha

III. Maling Aral #3 — “Mas Mababang Dios si Jesus”

Ito ay paghahati o pagmamaliit sa pagka-Dios.

A. Sinasalungat nito ang Kasulatan

A. Konteksto

B. Ibang Talata

  • Juan 1:1 — Siya ay Dios
  • Juan 10:30 — “Ako at ang Ama ay iisa”

Konklusyon

“Dakila” ay tumutukoy sa kalagayan
Hindi sa kalikasan

V. Maling Paggamit ng Colosas 1:15

“panganay ng lahat ng mga nilalang”

A. Kasunod na Talata

Colosas 1:16 — “…sa kaniya nilalang ang lahat…”

Siya ang lumilikha
Hindi nilikha

B. Ibang Halimbawa

  • Israel — tinawag na panganay (Exodo 4:22)

Hindi unang nilikha

Kundi:

  • pinili o hinirang
  • may kataasan

Konklusyon

“Panganay” = posisyon
Hindi pinagmulan

VI. CENI — Pagtutuwid sa Pamamagitan ng Awtoridad

Utos

  • Tinawag si Cristo na Dios

Halimbawa

  • Kumilos bilang Dios

Kinakailangang Konklusyon

VII. Apologetics — Bakit Nagkakamali ang Iba

Kadalasan:

  • kumukuha ng isang talata lamang
  • hindi tinitingnan ang konteksto
  • hindi kinukumpara sa ibang talata

Ngunit ang prinsipyo ay:

Ang Biblia ang nagpapaliwanag sa Biblia  (Basahin: Awit 119:160)

VIII. Polemics — Ugat ng Kamalian

Ang tunay na problema:

Hindi tinatanggap ang buong Kasulatan

Sa halip:

  • pinipili ang gusto
  • iniiwasan ang malinaw

Resulta:

  • kalituhan
  • maling aral

IX. Pagkakaisa ng Katotohanan

Kapag pinagsama ang lahat:

  • Tinawag si Cristo na Dios
  • Gumawa Siya ng gawa ng Dios
  • Tinanggap Niya ang pagsamba
  • Nasa Kaniya ang buong kapuspusan

Walang contradiction
Iisang katotohanan

X. Praktikal na Aplikasyon — Ingatan ang Katotohanan

Ang doktrina o aral ay hindi optional

Kung maling Cristo ang kilala mo:

  • hindi yan makapagliligtas
  • wala ka sa tunay

Kaya:

The Origin and Error of “Once Saved, Always Saved” (OSAS): A Biblical Exposé

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog The Origin and Error of “Once Saved, Always Saved” (OSAS) A Biblical Exposé An Authoritative Study Using the King James Bible Introduction: A Question of Eternal Security The doctrine of Once Saved, Always Saved (OSAS) asserts that once a person is saved, they can never lose their salvation, regardless of future behavior, apostasy, or rebellion. It is often linked with the phrase “eternal security” in Protestant theology. This study examines the origin, evaluates the biblical claims, and provides a full refutation using only the Scripture as the final and only authority. I. Historical Roots of OSAS (A Brief Context) Though many today assume OSAS to be an apostolic doctrine, its systematized form arose from John Calvin's doctrine of Perseverance of the Saints (TULIP), later popularized by Baptist theologians like Charles Stanley and modern evangelical churches. However, early church fathers such as Tertullian, Orige...

The Promise and Importance of Christ’s Church

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog     Next ⟶ The Promise and Importance of Christ’s Church "And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." — Matthew 16:18 (KJV) Introduction The Church of Christ is not a product of human invention or denominational evolution. It is the fulfillment of a divine promise — a structure built not by human hands, but by the Lord Himself. In a time when religious confusion is widespread and thousands of conflicting churches exist, we must return to the simple, authoritative statement of Jesus: “I will build my church.” (Matt. 16:18) These words mark the beginning of a divine blueprint. This was not a vague intention, nor a mystical concept. Jesus was referring to a real, identifiable, and traceable body of people — the church — that He Himself would build, own, and preserve. “I Will Build My Church” — A Divine Dec...

Grace, Faith, and Works

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog Grace, Faith, And Works A Biblical Exegesis Of Ephesians 2:8–10 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” – Ephesians 2:8–10 I. Introduction: Why This Study Matters Now More Than Ever In a religious world increasingly divided by theological confusion and denominational doctrines, few passages are more quoted yet more misunderstood than Ephesians 2:8–10 : “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” While this passage declares foundational truths about salvation, it has been misappropria...

Restoration Movement: The Illusion of Rebuilding What God Preserved

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog There Is Nothing to Restore — Just Preach the Gospel A Doctrinal Exposition Affirming the Ongoing Existence and Perfection of God’s Church Introduction In recent centuries, many sincere believers have spoken of a "restoration movement"—the idea that the true church was lost to history and must now be recovered or re-established. But is this concept biblical? Does Scripture ever indicate that the church built by Christ (Matthew 16:18) would vanish, become corrupted, and need a future restoration? The answer, as revealed in the inspired Word of God, is  no . What God  planned before the foundation of the world  (Ephesians 3:9–11), what Christ  purchased with His own blood  (Acts 20:28), and what was  established in power on Pentecost  (Acts 2),  continues to exist today . While men may depart from the truth, the truth remains. And what we are called to do is not to restore, but to  pre...

The Church Built By Jesus Christ In The New testament - Lesson 1

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog ⟵ Previous Next ⟶ Lesson 1: The Church Planned by God Before the Creation of the Universe Key Passage: Ephesians 3:9–11 “ And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord: ” Introduction The concept of the church is often misunderstood—even among believers. To many, it appears to be an afterthought, a temporary institution until Christ returns, or merely a human denomination among many. But the Scriptures teach otherwise. The church was not an accident. It was not a substitute for a failed plan. It was not an invention of man. It was part of God's eternal purpose , rooted i...

WHAT MUST I DO TO BE SAVED?

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog What Must I Do To Be Saved? A Doctrinal Study in Biblical Salvation THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION YOU MUST ASK — AND GOD HAS ALREADY ANSWERED IT There is no question more urgent, more eternal, and more personal than this: “What must I do to be saved?” This question is not a modern invention — it is already found in the New Testament , asked by real people in real moments of conviction, and answered by the Holy Spirit through the apostles of Jesus Christ. This means every truth-seeker today must stop looking elsewhere for answers. God has already spoken. His answer is final. His plan is clear. If the whole world knew God’s answer to this question, no one would be lost. So if what you’ve heard about salvation differs from what the Bible teaches — leave that group, that preacher, or that tradition immediately. “ If anyone preaches another gospel… let him be accursed. ” (Galatians 1:8–9) Are you ready to hear the real answer from...

“Jesus Called Us Brethren”

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog "Go and Tell My brethren" Text: “Then Jesus said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. Go and tell My brethren to go to Galilee, and there they will see Me.’” - Matthew 28:10 I. Introduction: The Significance of the Word "Brethren" After His glorious resurrection, Jesus could have referred to His disciples with any term—“servants,” “students,” or “followers.” But He chose the word “brethren.” This word carries weight. It reflects forgiveness, restored fellowship, and most importantly, a shared relationship with the Father. Why does Jesus now call His disciples brethren? What does that mean for us today? And how did we become worthy of such a name? II. Context and Background Let’s recall that before the crucifixion, His disciples deserted Him in fear (Matthew 26:56). Peter even denied Him three times. They failed Him at His darkest hour. Yet, after rising from the grave, Jesus doesn’t rebuke them—He calls them “My b...
