Lesson 2: How God Executed His Eternal Plan Through His Son In Building The Church

Galatians 4:4 — “But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,”

Ephesians 3:11 — “According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”


Introduction

If Lesson 1 established that the church was part of God’s eternal purpose before time began, then this lesson reveals how that divine plan was carried out in time—through His Son, Jesus Christ. The church did not arise from human efforts or institutional religion. It was brought into existence by the life, teachings, death, resurrection, and exaltation of Christ. Every prophecy, type, and shadow throughout the Old Testament pointed toward this glorious fulfillment. God did not act randomly or reactively; He worked with precision, bringing prophecy to pass “in the fulness of time.”

Historical Context

At the time of Paul’s writing to the Galatians (circa A.D. 49–50), many Jewish Christians were struggling with the temptation to return to the Law of Moses. Paul reminds them that Christ came when God’s appointed time had arrived—not before, not after—and that the Law served its temporary role until the Messiah came (Gal. 3:24–25).

The Roman Empire had unified much of the world under one government and language (Greek). Jewish synagogues existed across the empire, and messianic expectation was high (John 1:41; Luke 2:25–26). All was ready—and then God sent forth His Son.

Biblical Context

The Fulfillment of Prophecy:

  • Genesis 3:15 — First prophecy of a Savior who would crush the serpent’s head.
  • Isaiah 9:6–7 — “Unto us a child is born… and the government shall be upon his shoulder…”
  • Daniel 2:44 — In the days of the Roman kings, “the God of heaven [shall] set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed.”
  • Luke 24:44 — Jesus said, “All things must be fulfilled… which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.”

Christ Executed the Plan:

  • John 17:4 — “I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.”
  • Hebrews 10:9–10 — “He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second… we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.”
  • Matthew 16:18 — “Upon this rock I will build my church…”

Jesus’ mission was not only to redeem individuals but to build His church, the collective body of the redeemed.

Greek Exegesis: "Fulness of Time" (Gal. 4:4)

Greek: τὸ πλήρωμα τοῦ χρόνου (to plērōma tou chronou)

  • πλήρωμα (plērōma) – fullness, completeness, maturity.
  • χρόνος (chronos) – chronological time, the flow of time.

Commentary:
This phrase emphasizes that God’s timing was exact and intentional. History had reached its divinely appointed moment for the Messiah to appear. Every piece was in place for Christ to execute the Father’s eternal purpose and lay the foundation of the church.

Doctrinal Note:
God did not improvise. The execution of His plan through Christ was preordained, fulfilling prophecy and sealing the covenant through His blood (Heb. 9:15–17). The church is the result of that executed plan.

  • Jesus Christ is the central agent of God’s plan—the Builder and Saviour of the Church (Heb. 3:3; Eph. 5:23).
  • The Law was a schoolmaster leading to Christ; it has now served its purpose (Gal. 3:24–25; John 1:17).
  • Every faithful Christian is now part of a divine structure that could only exist after Christ accomplished His redemptive work.

Application Today:
We must not cling to Old Covenant shadows when the New Covenant reality has come. Nor should we think of the church as optional or incidental. If Christ died to bring it into existence, then we must live to serve, preserve, and promote it.

Refutation of False Doctrines

False View #1: Jesus came to set up an earthly kingdom but failed due to Israel’s rejection.

Refuted by: Daniel 2:44; John 18:36; Ephesians 1:20–23

Truth: Jesus’ kingdom (the church, Matthew 16:18) is spiritual, not political. It was established successfully through His death and resurrection.

False View #2: The church is not essential to salvation.

Refuted by: Acts 20:28; Ephesians 5:25

Truth: The church is blood-bought. “Even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it.” One cannot be saved apart from it. Christ is “the saviour of the body.”

False View #3: The church was a backup plan after the Jews rejected the kingdom.

Refuted by: Ephesians 3:11; Acts 2:23; Isaiah 46:10

Truth: The church was never a plan B. It was the goal from the beginning—executed at the perfect time.

Conclusion and Exhortation

The same God who purposed the church from eternity past has fulfilled that purpose through His Son. Jesus did not merely preach moral values; He executed a divine blueprint with surgical precision. From prophecy to promise, from Bethlehem to Calvary, every step fulfilled the eternal plan.

Exhortation:
Let us stand in awe of God's wisdom. Let us honor the work of Christ not only in our individual salvation but in the glorious establishment of His church. Let us never treat the church as optional or secondary. To do so is to diminish what Christ died to build.

Panimula

Kung sa Aralin 1 ay ipinakita na ang iglesia ay bahagi ng walang hanggang panukala ng Dios bago pa man ang pag-iral ng panahon, ang araling ito naman ay magpapaliwanag kung paano isinakatuparan ng Dios ang banal Niyang layunin sa kasaysayan—sa pamamagitan ng Kanyang Anak na si Jesucristo. Ang iglesia ay hindi produkto ng makataong institusyon, kundi resulta ng buhay, pagtuturo, kamatayan, pagkabuhay na maguli, at pagkakaluklok ni Cristo sa kanan ng Dios. Ang bawat hula, anino, at larawan sa Lumang Tipan ay nakatuon sa katuparang ito. Ang Dios ay kumilos nang may ganap na lapat na kaayusan sa tamang kapanahunan ayon sa itinakda ng propesiya.

Pangkasaysayang Konteksto

Sa panahon ng sumulat si Pablo sa mga taga-Galacia (bandang A.D. 49–50), maraming Kristiyanong Judio ang nahihirapan sa tuksong bumalik sa Kautusan ni Moises. Ang layunin ni Jesus ay hindi lamang ang katubusan ng lahat kundi itatag ang Kanyang iglesia, na Kanyang katawan, kung saan Niya inilalagay ang mga tinubos.

Kahalagahan ng Aral at Aplikasyon Nito

  • Si Jesucristo ang sentro at tanging tagapagpatupad ng layunin ng Dios—hindi lamang bilang Tagapagligtas ng “katawan” kundi Siyang Tagapagtatag lamang ng iisang Iglesia (Heb. 3:3).
  • Ang Kautusan ay tagapagturo lamang hanggang sa pagdating ni Cristo; natapos na ito sa kanyang layunin (Gal. 3:24–25; Juan 1:17).
  • Ang bawat tapat na Kristiyano ay bahagi na ngayon ng isang banal na estruktura na nag-umpisang umiral lamang matapos makumpleto ni Cristo ang ginawang katubusan sa pamamagitan ng Kaniyang dugo.

Aplikasyon sa Kasalukuyan:
Hindi tayo dapat humawak pa sa mga anino ng Lumang Tipan yamang dumating na ang katotohanan ng Bagong Tipan. At hindi rin natin dapat ituring ang iglesia bilang pansamantala o opsyonal lamang. Kung si Cristo ay namatay upang maitatag ang Kaniyang iglesia, tayo naman ay dapat mabuhay upang maglingkod at itaguyod ito.

Pagpapabulaan sa mga Maling Aral

Maling Aral #1: Dumating si Jesus upang magtatag ng pisikal na kaharian ng Dios ngunit siya’y nabigo dahil sa pagtanggi ng Israel.

Katotohanan: Ang kaharian ni Jesus (ang iglesia) ay espirituwal. Ito’y matagumpay na naitatag sa pamamagitan ng Kanyang kamatayan at pagkabuhay na maguli.

Maling Aral #2: Hindi mahalaga ang iglesia sa kaligtasan.

Katotohanan: Ang iglesia ay binili ng dugo. “gaya naman ni Cristo na umibig sa iglesia, at ibinigay ang kaniyang sarili dahil sa kaniya.” Hindi maaaring maligtas ang isang tao kung wala siya sa iglesia, samakatuwid-baga-y hindi siya idinagdag ni Cristo sa Kanyang iglesia (Gawa 2:47).

Maling Aral #3: Ang iglesia ay planong pamalit lamang dahil sa pagtanggi ng mga Judio.

Konklusyon

Ang Dios na nagpasiya na magtatayo iglesia mula pa sa walang hanggan — isinakatuparan ang Kanyang plano sa pamamagitan ng Kanyang Anak. Si Jesus ay hindi lamang nagturo ng mabubuting aral; Siya’y nagsagawa ng banal na plano ng may ganap na kapamahalaan. Mula sa mga hula hanggang sa mga katuparan nito, mula sa Betlehem hanggang sa Kalbaryo, bawat hakbang ay pagtupad sa walang hanggang panukala ng Dios.

Panawagan:
Ating ipagbunyi ang kapuspusan ng karunungan ng Dios sa iglesia. Parangalan natin ang ginawa ni Cristo—hindi lamang para sa ating kaligtasan, kundi pati sa marilag na pagkatatag ng Kaniyang iglesia. Huwag nating ituring ang iglesia bilang isang opsyon o bagay na pangalawa lang. Kung ito’y ipinundar sa dugo ni Cristo, ito’y dapat nating pahalagahan ng lubos.
