When A Just Man Falleth

Text: Proverbs 24:16

Falling Is Not the End

Brethren, the Word of God says, “For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief” (Prov. 24:16). Notice, the verse does not say if a just man falls, but when. Even those who are righteous in Christ will stumble, make mistakes, and face weakness. The difference between the just and the wicked is not whether they fall—it is what they do afterward. The just man rises again. The wicked stays down.

Have you fallen, brethren? Have you sinned, slipped, or grown cold in faith? God’s Word tells you: falling is not the end—unless you choose to stay there.

The Nature of Falling

To “falleth” here comes from the Hebrew word naphal, meaning to collapse, stumble, or be cast down. It does not describe a life of deliberate sin but moments of weakness, of being overtaken. Paul speaks of this in Galatians 6:1: “Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.”

Every one of us has been overtaken at some point. Peter fell when he denied the Lord three times (Matt. 26:75). David fell when he sinned with Bathsheba (2 Sam. 11). Yet both repented and rose again. Falling exposes our need for God’s mercy and our utter dependence on His strength.

The Power of Rising Again

The just man does not rise by his own power. He rises because the Lord upholds him. “Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand” (Psalm 37:24). Brethren, do you see the comfort here? God does not forsake His children when they stumble. He extends His hand, waiting for you to grasp it and stand again.

Think of the prodigal son in Luke 15. He fell deep into sin, but when he came to himself and arose to return to his father, he found open arms, forgiveness, and restoration. Rising again is always possible—if you turn back to God.

The Danger of Staying Down

But contrast this with the wicked. The verse says, “but the wicked shall fall into mischief.” The Hebrew word for “mischief” (ra‘) means calamity, ruin, destruction. When the wicked fall, they stay down. Why? Because pride keeps them from repentance. John 3:19 tells us, “men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.”

If you fall and do not rise in repentance, you are not walking as the just but as the wicked. Remaining in sin is dangerous—it hardens the heart, blinds the eyes, and leads to eternal ruin.

Brethren, Examine Yourselves

So I ask you, brethren, where are you now? Have you fallen and are still lying in guilt, shame, or hidden sin? Or have you risen again in repentance, confession, and renewed obedience? “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith” (2 Cor. 13:5). God does not expect sinless perfection, but He does expect humble submission and perseverance.

The gospel call is not to stay down in defeat but to walk in newness of life (Rom. 6:4). Christ died and rose again, so that you may die to sin and rise to righteousness. That is why baptism is described as burial and resurrection (Rom. 6:3–5). And that is why repentance for the Christian is described as “remembering, repenting, and doing the first works” (Rev. 2:5).

A Call to Action

Friend, if you are not yet in Christ, you remain in the fall of sin. The only way to rise is to obey the gospel—believe in Jesus (Mark 16:16), repent of your sins (Acts 17:30), confess His name (Rom. 10:9–10), and be baptized for the remission of your sins (Acts 2:38). Then God Himself will add you to the body of the saved (Acts 2:47).

And to you, brethren who have already obeyed, if you have fallen back into sin, do not remain down. Rise again! Confess your faults, repent, and pray for forgiveness (1 John 1:9; James 5:16). God is faithful to restore you if you humble yourself today.

Eternal Perspective

Brethren, heaven is not for the flawless—it is for the faithful. God’s people are not those who never stumble, but those who refuse to stay down. “Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life” (Rev. 2:10).

So I ask you, right now—will you rise? Will you repent? Will you obey the Lord today? Let not pride or delay keep you down. For the just man falleth seven times, but riseth up again. Rise today… and keep rising until the day when Christ comes to take you home.

Brethren, what will you do with this message? Will you rise—or will you stay down? The Lord is calling. Answer Him now.

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Mat 11:28-30)

Kapag Ang Matuwid Ay Nabuwal

Teksto: Kawikaan 24:16

Lahat tayo’y nadadala minsan. Gayunman, kapwa sila’y nagsisi at bumangon muli.

Babangon ba kayo—o mananatiling bagsak? Ang Panginoon ay tumatawag. Sagutin Siya ngayon.

(Mat 11:28-30)

The Origin and Error of “Once Saved, Always Saved” (OSAS): A Biblical Exposé

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog The Origin and Error of “Once Saved, Always Saved” (OSAS) A Biblical Exposé An Authoritative Study Using the King James Bible Introduction: A Question of Eternal Security The doctrine of Once Saved, Always Saved (OSAS) asserts that once a person is saved, they can never lose their salvation, regardless of future behavior, apostasy, or rebellion. It is often linked with the phrase “eternal security” in Protestant theology. This study examines the origin, evaluates the biblical claims, and provides a full refutation using only the Scripture as the final and only authority. I. Historical Roots of OSAS (A Brief Context) Though many today assume OSAS to be an apostolic doctrine, its systematized form arose from John Calvin's doctrine of Perseverance of the Saints (TULIP), later popularized by Baptist theologians like Charles Stanley and modern evangelical churches. However, early church fathers such as Tertullian, Orige...

The Promise and Importance of Christ’s Church

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog     Next ⟶ The Promise and Importance of Christ’s Church "And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." — Matthew 16:18 (KJV) Introduction The Church of Christ is not a product of human invention or denominational evolution. It is the fulfillment of a divine promise — a structure built not by human hands, but by the Lord Himself. In a time when religious confusion is widespread and thousands of conflicting churches exist, we must return to the simple, authoritative statement of Jesus: “I will build my church.” (Matt. 16:18) These words mark the beginning of a divine blueprint. This was not a vague intention, nor a mystical concept. Jesus was referring to a real, identifiable, and traceable body of people — the church — that He Himself would build, own, and preserve. “I Will Build My Church” — A Divine Dec...

Grace, Faith, and Works

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog Grace, Faith, And Works A Biblical Exegesis Of Ephesians 2:8–10 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” – Ephesians 2:8–10 I. Introduction: Why This Study Matters Now More Than Ever In a religious world increasingly divided by theological confusion and denominational doctrines, few passages are more quoted yet more misunderstood than Ephesians 2:8–10 : “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” While this passage declares foundational truths about salvation, it has been misappropria...

Restoration Movement: The Illusion of Rebuilding What God Preserved

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog There Is Nothing to Restore — Just Preach the Gospel A Doctrinal Exposition Affirming the Ongoing Existence and Perfection of God’s Church Introduction In recent centuries, many sincere believers have spoken of a "restoration movement"—the idea that the true church was lost to history and must now be recovered or re-established. But is this concept biblical? Does Scripture ever indicate that the church built by Christ (Matthew 16:18) would vanish, become corrupted, and need a future restoration? The answer, as revealed in the inspired Word of God, is  no . What God  planned before the foundation of the world  (Ephesians 3:9–11), what Christ  purchased with His own blood  (Acts 20:28), and what was  established in power on Pentecost  (Acts 2),  continues to exist today . While men may depart from the truth, the truth remains. And what we are called to do is not to restore, but to  pre...

The Church Built By Jesus Christ In The New testament - Lesson 1

English 🇵🇭 Tagalog ⟵ Previous Next ⟶ Lesson 1: The Church Planned by God Before the Creation of the Universe Key Passage: Ephesians 3:9–11 “ And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord: ” Introduction The concept of the church is often misunderstood—even among believers. To many, it appears to be an afterthought, a temporary institution until Christ returns, or merely a human denomination among many. But the Scriptures teach otherwise. The church was not an accident. It was not a substitute for a failed plan. It was not an invention of man. It was part of God's eternal purpose , rooted i...
